Alberson grabs night one cash at Corn State Nationals
DAVENPORT, Ia. (September 13, 2024) – Nothing like a home team win under Friday night lights. But this isn’t high school football. Garrett Alberson, driving for the Quad Cities based Roberts Motorsports, captured the Lucas Oil MLRA feature on Night 1 of the Corn State Nationals, at the Davenport Speedway.
Alberson started the 30-lap main on the pole but let Dennis Erb Jr. jump out to the early lead. Erb would lead the first twenty-six laps of the race. Alberson took the lead and had to deal with lapped traffic in the final circuits, but held on to nip Erb by .250 seconds.
Frank Heckenast Jr., Chad Simpson, and Dustin Sorensen rounded out the top five. Heckenast, Erb, Alberson, and Dillon McCowan won heat races. Chris Simpson and Steve Stultz took the B’s. Alberson set quick time in qualifying.
Travis Denning beat out Cory Dumpert to win Outhouse and Storage to Go Container Rentals IMCA Late Model feature. There was a close battle for the third position with Jesse Bodin edging out Evan Miller and Joe Beal.
Logan Veloz scored another D&K Home Products IMCA SportMod feature at Davenport Speedway. Veloz took the lead midway through the 15-lapper and held on for the win. Tony Olson finished second with Jason Roth third. Brayton Carter and Rayce Mullen were fourth and fifth respectively.
Cary Brown got the win in Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock action. Allen Provenzano crossed the finish line first, but was DQ’d. Second went to Blake Woodruff with Jesse Owen third.
Night 2 of the Corn State Nationals is on tap for Saturday at Davenport Speedway. The Lucas Oil MLRA feature will pay $10,000-to-win. Also competing will be IMCA Modifieds, racing for a $5,000 top prize. IMCA SportMods and Outlaw Street Stocks are also on the card.
