Anderson Teams With Koons for 2014 and Beyond
Wheatland, MO (February 7, 2014) – Three time Lucas Oil MLRA Champion John Anderson has teamed with fellow Omaha, Nebraska racer Bill Koons for the 2014 season and beyond. The two have long been friends, and the timing was right for both to put a solid program in place. BK Motorsports will start the year in two new Rocket Chassis Race Cars and Custom Race Engines will provide the power.
“We’re going to put our best foot forward and see how it goes,” said Anderson. “It’s really hard for me to just go run Lucas oil MLRA and not shoot for a title, because it’s what we’ve done so much in the past.”
Anderson was certainly glad the call came from Koons. “I was at kind of a crossroads in my career and I really wanted to race more. When Bill decided he wanted to travel, this really turned into a great opportunity. I started in Rocket’s with Shop Quik Racing, and they really seem to be rolling good right now. I’m glad to get the chance to drive one again.”
Koons was ready for a change too. Having raced around Nebraska the last couple of seasons, he missed the competition on the Lucas Oil MLRA tour. “I got away from racing at the level we were because of the expense, but I really liked the different tracks and competitors. It seemed like I was sharper behind the wheel when I was running with MLRA.”
Koons was also quick to point to the Winner’s Circle program, which pays an additional $200 per car in the top ten in points, with perfect attendance, at each stop, as a good incentive to help offset the travel costs.
“John also wasn’t ready to just hang it up and retire,” Koons added. “He’s got a lot left to accomplish and is one of the top drivers in our region. The logistics work well to with us being so close in proximity. I’m ready to get going.”
The first race of the season will take place at I-80 Speedway on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska.
