ASCS Warrior Region winged sprint cars return to Scotland County Speedway
Memphis, Mo. (August 19, 2015) – Scotland County Fair Board is bringing sprint car racing to Northeast Missouri and the Tri-State area at the Memphis, MO fairgrounds on Friday, September 4.
Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region winged sprint cars will be joined with the Impact Signs WAR non-wing sprints for two classes of open wheel race cars. Action gets underway at 7:30 p.m. with hot laps, which will be followed by racing events.
Over 40 cars are expected to be in competition in qualifying events for the two 25 lap features that will conclude the program. Sprint cars have not competed on the Scotland County Speedway since 2001. Jonathan Cornell of Sedalia MO leads the point standings of the ASCS Warrior Region coming into the Memphis race.
Cornell will be challenged by a strong contingency of drivers from Missouri and the surrounding states. Rounding out the top five in Warrior season points are Evan Martin – Lohman, MO, Austin Alumbaugh – Higginsville, MO, Ricky Stangl – Lee’s Summit, MO, and Jay Russell – Elwood, KS. WAR non-winged sprint car point standings is led by Casey Shuman of Rattlesnake Bend, AZ. Chasing Shuman in the season point battle are Chris Parkinson – Gladstone, MO, Riley Kreisel – Warsaw, MO, Kenny Potter – Harrisonville, MO, and Mitchell Moore – Edgerton, KS.
The Friday night racing at Scotland County Speedway begins three consecutive nights of racing for both series. Saturday and Sunday the sprint cars move on to Randolph County Raceway near Moberly, MO. The three night series is expected to attract cars to the area.
The Scotland County Fairgrounds is located near the intersection of highways MO 15 and US 136. The speedway is a semi-banked 3/8 mile oval. Grandstand gates are scheduled to open at 6:00 pm the day of the race.
