Beautiful Fall Weather, Big Names & Record Car Count All Forecast for this Week’s Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (September 25, 2012) – Beautiful fall weather, the biggest names in dirt late model stock car racing, and a record car count are all forecast for this week’s $40,000-to-win Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, September 27-29, at the Knoxville Raceway in south central Iowa. According to weather.com, Thursday, Friday and Saturday will all feature high temperatures in the mid-Seventies with zero percent chance of rain.
Amongst the biggest names that have already pre-entered the ninth annual event are past champions Brian Birkhofer (2004), Scott Bloomquist (2005, ’09), Brian Shirley (2006), Brady Smith (2007), Tim McCreadie (2008), Billy Moyer (2010) and Don O’Neal (2011). Also pre-entered are Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point leader Jimmy Owens, Steve Francis, Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer, Jr., Jason Feger, Dennis Erb, Jr., Jimmy Mars, Bobby Pierce, Earl Pearson, Jr., Ray Guss, Jr., and veteran racin’ John Mason.
In fact, 2012 will be the first year that the three-day national championship event is open to any and all competitors. Thus, the seventy-one pre-entries for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned event have already set a new car-count record. Amongst the pre-entries are Will Vaught of Missouri, John Anderson of Nebraska, Mike Marlar of Tennessee, John Duty of Oregon, Jared Landers of North Carolina, Austin Hubbard of Delaware, Tyler Reddick of California, Mark Burgtorf of Illinois, Jill George of Iowa, John Blankenship of West Virginia, and Gregg Satterlee of Pennsylvania.
It is possible that additional entries will be received later this week from such stars as Lance Mathees of Minnesota and former Knoxville Late Model Nationals preliminary night winners Darrell Lanigan and Rick Eckert.
Many events will be taking place on the Marion County Fairgrounds this week, both at the Knoxville Raceway and at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum.
