Blume, Bahrs & LeBarge Add Their names To Maquoketa Speedway Winners List

Maquoketa, Iowa: The Maquoketa Speedway hosted the fifth night of the 23 racing season Saturday night on an a very warm night for early June. The racing action was outstanding with lots of close finishes on a very racy ¼ mile track on the Jackson County Fairgrounds.

The Kunes Nissan IMCA Modifieds saw a first time winner for the 23 season make his way to victory lane. Austin Blume drove a perfect race riding the extreme high groove besting a strong field of IMCA Modified drivers. Blume took command early from his second row start and led the 20 lap main for 18 laps in the race that went caution free. Jeff (Bone) Larson advanced from the fourth row to take second ahead of Ryan Duhme.

Jason Bahrs also scored his first win of the season at Maquoketa topping the OCJeeps. Com IMCA Stock Car class. Bahrs took advantage of a front row start and led the race flag to flag in scoring the win ahead of Jerry Miles and Chase Zaruba.

Ben Chapman is having an outstanding year in his new Performer IMCA Amhof Trucking Sportmod. Chapman started the feature in the 10th position and shot to the front taking the lead on lap number four. Chapman went on to score his third win of the season at Maquoketa by getting to the checkers ahead of Jarrett Franzen and Levi Laymon.

The Legends Direct INEX Legends feature started with an early incident that saw three drivers have their machines retired to the infield on the wreckers. Fortunately no injuries were reported. The 20 lap feature win went to Marion, Iowa’s Michael Weber. The number 8 of Weber emerged from a pack of five drivers that battled early for the point position. Jordan Miklas followed Weber across the finish line in second just ahead of Jackson Lewis.

The Hawkeye Auto IMCA Sport Compacts provided another wild race with a lap 10 caution sending the top three cars to the tail for two separate incidents that happened simultaneously. When the race went green for the final two laps it was Trent LeBarge taking the checkers first ahead of Justin Hempstead and Brandon Koch.

Veteran racer Randy LaMar scored another feature win in the Ueland Auto IMCA Hobby Stock division. LaMar led the brigade of 4’s to the finish line as the top four cars were all number 4. LaMar took the win ahead of Daniel Wauters and Jared Miles.

Our guests on Saturday night were the Midwest Jalopies. The club brought seven Jalopies to the ¼ mile and 67 year old Tom Honts drove his 1947 Ford Coupe to the win ahead of Austin Honts in his 1930 Plymouth.

Saturday, June 10th the Maquoketa Speedway will host the third annual Del Gade Memorial featuring the AIRS (American Iron Racing Series). The classic race class was created by Del Gade and his son Brian and the expectations are very high for this special event as nearly 50 classic cars are expected to be in action. The AIRS cars will join the regular weekly classes with hot laps taking to the ¼ mile Maquoketa Speedway at 6 pm.
