Maquoketa, Iowa: Regular Weekly IMCA Racing returned to the Maquoketa Speedway following the 2023 Jackson County Fair. Several drivers scored their first ever Maquoketa Speedway wins on Saturday night during the racing program that saw a huge field of 122 drivers take part in the action.

The Kunes Nissan IMCA Late Model feature saw a new driver make his way to victory lane following the action packed 25 lap feature. Jesse Bodin made the jump into the Late Models after racing a Sportmod the last few years. Bodin raced to the front from his third row start and went on to score his first ever win at the Maquoketa Speedway topping a strong 21 car field. Bodin took the win ahead of a couple of very strong weekly contenders at the Maquoketa Speedway. Dalton Simonsen nipped Andy Nezworski for second at the line.

Jeff (Bone) Larson is closing in on a career milestone in the IMCA Modifieds, with the feature win on Saturday night in the Kunes Nissan Modified main event, Larson scored his 99th career IMCA Modified feature win. Larson was the Maquoketa Speedway track Champion in 2021, and the Maquoketa Speedway track Championship propelled Larson to the IMCA Modified National Championship. On Saturday night Larson advanced from the 4th row to overtake race leader Joe Beal as the main crossed under the checkers for the ½ way mark. Larson raced on to the win ahead of Beal and Mark Schulte.

Richard Nelson added his name to the Maquoketa Speedway winners list by capturing the win in the QCJeeps.com IMCA Stock Car Class. Nelson took the lead early from his second row start and went on to take the win over a fast closing Brett Vanous. Jeff Larson drove the 2x Double Cheeseburger Racing Stock Car to a third place finish.

The Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmods saw a stout field of 20 drivers take the green for their main event. When the checkers flew it was the 118 of Austin Stamm making his way to victory lane for the first time. Stamm battled to the front from his eighth starting spot. Stamm took the lead from Randy Farrell and went on to record the win ahead of Shane Paris and Farrell.

The Ueland Auto IMCA Hobby Stocks saw another first time victor at the Maquoketa Speedway. 16 year old rookie Hobby Stock driver Tucker Richardson was able to break out of a pack of four drivers who had a shot at the win late in the race. Richardson recorded the win ahead of Lukas Short and Kyler Hefty.

Michael Weber has been the man to beat as of late in the INEX Legends, it appeared that Weber’s late race heroics would garner another win but Dave Eberle was up for the challenge. Eberle raced up front the majority of the race and was bale to hold off Weber’s late race move in taking the win. Jeff Schmidt ran up front the entire main event as well before settling for third.

Jacob Welter was the last of several drivers to hold the lead in the Hawkeye Auto Sport Compacts. Welter fell back to third late in the race but was able to recover to charge back into the lead and take the win by a very narrow margin ahead of Spencer Roggentien. The win was Welter’s first ever a the Maquoketa Speedway.

The Vintage Late Models were guests of the Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday night. The class that features cars lettered and painted like the cars of many drivers who carved the path for racing as we now it today were featured on Saturday night. Ray Guss Jr driving the John Connolly look alike car took the win ahead of Jeff Walker in a Ronnie Weedon tribute car with Richard Nelson piloting a Ed Sanger look alike Camaro into third.
