Columbus Junction, Iowa (June 7, 2024) –  Kemper Trucking & Excavation sponsored the Friday night racing action at the CJ Speedway located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction, Iowa. The race car count continues to grow in 2024 and the racing was very good on Friday night.

Dan (Stumpy) Brockert broke a three year dry spell on Friday night by capturing the Mincer Ford IMCA Late Model feature. The IMCA Stock Cars ran their feature as the headliner of the night and the main saw a stout field of 14 drivers take the initial green flag. Brockert took off from his pole position start but was never able to break away for a comfortable lead. Kirk Kinsley applied pressure to Brockert early before Corey Strothman was able to take over the second spot and close on Brockert. Point leaders John Oliver Jr. and Chad Krogmeier advanced to the front from 8th and 6th position starts respectively and joined the lead pack as well. At the checkers it was Brockert with a one car length win over Strothman and Krogmeier.

The Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modifieds saw Brandon Banks score a popular win, his second win of the season at CJ. Troy Philpott lead for several laps before a broken brake line sidelined the 11 car. The younger of the Banks in the field took over the top spot and went on to record the win. At the checkers Dakota Simmons took second over a fast closing Jarrett Brown.

John Oliver Jr. has established himself as the man to beat in the Huston Ag IMCA Sportmod class. On Friday night Oliver shot to the front from his 4th row start taking over the top spot by moving around Todd Hansen. Oliver Jr. went on to record a comfortable win ahead of the previous weeks winner Tyler Heckart. Hansen turned in a fine run in taking third on Friday night.

In the CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Stores IMCA Hobby Stocks the winner was not determined until the final corner of the checkered flag lap. Shane Richardson was leading with Luke Phillips breathing down his neck. The two Wapello drivers exited turn four charging to the checkers side by side. At the finish line it was Richardson scoring the win by a few feet. Preston McDonald followed Phillips across the finish line in third.

The stage is now set for the biggest race of he year at the CJ Speedway. Friday, June 14th the cars and Stars of the Malvern Bank SLMR East Series Late Models will be on hand battling it out for the $3,000 top prize for the Tony Stewart Tribute Race. This will be the only appearance of the Late Models at the CJ Speedway in 2024. All regular classes will also be in competition, hot laps will take to the track at 7 pm with racing to follow.
