Four more racers get their first 34 Raceway wins

BURLINGTON, IA (August 4, 2012) – The 2012 point season is nearing the end at 34 Raceway with season championship night coming August 25. That means time is running out to see just who will be the track champions for 2012. Four drivers would make it to the winner’s circle for the first time this year last Saturday including Chuck Hannah, Moline, Il. (late models), Darin Duffy, Hazelton, Ia (modifieds), Abe Huls, Carthage, Il. (stock cars) and Craig Bangert, Golden, Il (4 cylinders). Ryan Jamison, Mediapolis raced to his third 305 sprint feature win this year while Matt Gavin, Kirkwood, Il would get win number five for the year.
Coming up this week, Saturday, August 5, is the popular I-Wireless $5 Fan Appreciation Night. Grandstand admission will be just $5 this week and as usual kids 10 and under are admitted free . Taking to the track will be the IMCA Late Models, Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods, Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars, Pepsi Hobby Stocks and I-Wireless/Louisa Communications IMCA 4 Cylinders.
The second On Track Autograph Session will be held at intermission as racers bring their cars to the front stretch. All fans will be invited to go out on the race track and meet and greet the drivers who will be signing autographs.
Then mark your calendars for Saturday, August 18 for the Brockway Sprint Invaders Night of the Twins. Double Sprint Invaders features plus IMCA Stock Cars, 4 cylinders and mod lites are on the card.
Darin Duffy, Hazelton, Il, moved up from his fifth row start and took the lead from Andy Krieger on lap eleven of the twenty lap Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modified feature and went on to pull away for his first win at 34 Raceway this year. Duffy moved up from his fifth row start getting by Krieger who led the twenty lap race from the drop of the green. The race was stopped on lap twelve when Josh Foster, Montrose, got hit sending him flying into the air landing on his roof. Foster would walk away from the incident but would not be able to finish the race. Scott Hogan holds a narrow four point lead over Josh Foster in the point race.
Abe Huls, Carthage, Il., raced to his first Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Car feature win this year. Hulls took the lead from Jim Lynch on lap three and would pull away for an easy win. Jim Lynch and Chris Webb battled it out for second with Webb crossing the finish line behind Huls. John Oliver, Jr. continues his point lead with 465 points over Brett Timmerman with 446.
Ryan Jamison, Mediapolis, picked up his third W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint feature win taking the checkered flag by a large margin. Jamison took the lead from Justin Newberry after moving up from his fourth row start on lap seven following a caution. John Schulz and Donnie Steward, both starting on the fifth row, battled it out for second with Schulz winning the battle. Jamison’s win moved him closer to point leader Donnie Steward who leads the standings with 434 points followed by Jamison with 414. Daniel Bergquist is not far behind with 411.
In his first year in the late model division, Chuck Hannah, Moline, Il, would get his first ever IMCA Late model feature victory. After taking the lead from Matt Strassheim on lap two of the twenty five lap feature Sam Halstead would led the next fifteen laps before Hannah would take over the number one spot on lap seventeen. Hannah would pull away to take the checkered flag for the first time as Halstead held off Ray Guss, Jr. for second. Nate Beuseling continues his point lead with 411 points followed by Todd Malmstrom with 389 and Strassheim with 383.
Race fans saw another first time 34 Raceway winner when Craig Bangert, Golden, Il took the checkered flag in the I-Wireless/Louisa Communications IMCA 4 Cylinder feature. Banger took the lead from Jerrod Nichols on lap six and went on to take the checkers. Billy Stanford would follow in second. John Whalen’s leads the point race with 491 points ahead of Stanford with 442.
The Pepsi Hobby Stocks capped off the night with Matt Gavin picking up his fifth win. Gavin took the lead from Chad Krogmeier on lap two and never looked back. Dane Fenton would follow in second. Gavin holds a narrow eight point lead with 507 points over Fenton with 499. Victor Hastings is not far behind with 490.
