Busy month awaits race fans at Independence Motor Speedway

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 15, 2013) – There’s something for everyone the next few weeks at Independence Motor Speedway. Along with weekly Saturday racing programs, a pair of special events and special promotions await area race fans. 

The next event on the 2013 schedule is the Saturday, May 18, Armed Forces & Veterans Night at the Races. All service men and women, both past and present, will be admitted free to the grandstands for the weekly program by simply presenting their military identification. 

The Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders Series will be the headliner of the Open Wheel Shootout, scheduled to kick off Memorial Day weekend on Friday, May 24. Along with the 360 Sprints, unsanctioned Modifieds and SportMods will take part in that evening’s event. 

Racing action will resume the following day on Saturday, May 25, for weekly points racing in all six regular divisions. 

The annual Relay for Life Pink Night is slated for Saturday, June 1. Fans are invited to wear pink to that evening’s program to promote cancer awareness. 

The track’s second mid-week special of the season will take place on Thursday, June 6, for the Entry Level Extravaganza. IMCA SportMods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts will take center stage for increased prize money. All three divisions will be sanctioned for state, regional and national points, however track points will not be awarded that evening. 

Ferguson Enterprises will sponsor the weekly program on Saturday, June 8, which is also Scout Night at the Races. Area Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts are invited to attend that evening’s event. Those in uniform will be admitted free. Other specials are also in the planning stages for the June 8 program. 

On Saturday, June 15, Tournier’s Recycling will sponsor the weekly racing program with prize giveaways planned. 

Grandstand admission for weekly Saturday racing programs are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students 12-17. Kids 11 and under are admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25. 

Gates open at 4 p.m. on Saturdays, with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow. 

Admission prices and starting times for special events, along with the latest speedway information, will be made available on the track’s web site, www.independencemotorspeedway.com. Specific details regarding each event will be released as each event approaches.
