Columbus Junction, Iowa (August 5, 2022) –  The regular racing season at the CJ Speedway came to a close for the five classes of cars that race weekly at the CJ Speedway on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction on Friday night. A warm but pleasant night greeted the fans and drivers for a great night of racing and a very special night as the kids left with back packs filled with back to school supplies and several youngsters left with new bicycles. All prizes were provided by the CJ Junior fan club and a host of sponsors which included race teams, track officials and many of the great fans who support the CJ Speedway.

Jarrett Brown put an exclamation point on his great racing season in the Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modified class. Brown pilots a car owned by long time racer and car owner Bill Failyer. Brown stated in victory lane Friday night, “ Larry gives us a great track every Friday night and my car loves CJ, we have had a great season and look forward to running some specials the rest of the season.” Brown advanced from his 5th row start and took the lead from Kyle Madden and went on to record the win. Dakota Simmons ran a strong third on Friday night. The Season Championship win also earned Brown the Season long Track Championship.

The Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Car feature, as always provided a tight race as at least three and sometimes four drivers were in contention for the win. Jason See was able to break free from the pack very late in the race and score the Season Championship win. See has raced a very limited schedule this year as his family is about to see a new addition. See is one of the tough customers in the Stock Car Class and he proved to be the best of the field on Friday night. Kirk Kinsley finished second and secured the 2022 track Championship, third went to last weeks feature winner Dustin Griffiths.

26 Huston Brothers Trucking IMCA Sportmods took the green for their season championship feature. Trey Rock led early from his front row start, Rock gave way to Carter VanDenberg who led for several laps before 12th starting Shane Paris was able to take over the top spot. Paris went on to score the win ahead of Rock and Levi Laymon. With a second place finish, Rock earned his first ever track championship.

The CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Stores Hobby Stocks saw Jon Irwin enter the night with a slight five point advantage over Randy LaMar in the season point race. The feature win on Championship night went to John Richardson. The 25 of Richardson was able to hold off LaMar for the win by a car length, Aaron Martin crossed under the checkers in third and with a 4th place finish, Irwin was able to secure the track championship.

In the Midwest Towing IMCA Sport Compact class season championship main event, Shane Barnes scored a very popular win and with the win Barnes was also crowned the Track Champion. Barnes battled with both Alex Hayes and Darin Smith in route to the win. At the Checkers it was Hayes taking second ahead of Smith.

Thursday, August 11th the CJ Speedway will present a very special night of racing as the Lucas Oil MLRA Super Late Models will come to town to do battle on the 4/10th mile oval racing for the winners take of $8,000. The best of the best will be racing as the Super Late Models will make a very rare appearance in Southeast Iowa. The support classes on Thursday night will be Modifieds, Sportmods and Stock Cars.
