Oskaloosa, Iowa: Racing action resumed at the Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Speedway on Wednesday night with Casey’s General Stores Night at the races. Racing action was held for only the fourth time in nine tries on the Mahaska County Monster ½ mile. Despite the extremely wet weather the area has received the track was in superb condition with a very smooth wide surface providing the drivers an opportunity to wow the fans with a great night of competition.

The Oskaloosa Quality Rental Sportmod main saw local hot shoe, Brayton Carter, charge into the race lead form his pole position start. Logan Anderson settled into second early on in the main as the next five positions were constantly changing. A late race yellow brought the field to Carter’s rear bumper and the dash was on to the finish. Positions 3 thru six changed a handful of times late in the race, with Carter scoring a hard fought win ahead of Anderson, Carter VanDenBerg crossed under the checkers in third less than a car length ahead of Colton Livezy.

The Midstate Machine Stock cars saw a four car pack break away early in the race with veteran driver Scott Dickey holding the point position. Dickey built a comfortable lead but as the race wound down the cars of Jason See, Cayden Carter and Derrick Agee closed to make the race to the checkers a four car battle. Dickey stated in victory lane,” my car got a little too tight late in the race and it was a handful to hang on for the win.” Jason See ran a very close second ahead of Cayden Carter.

The Parker Tree Service Hobby Stock feature saw very close racing throughout the 14 lap main event. Dustin Griffiths ran up front the entire distance but the win was anything but easy for the Hedrick driver. Griffiths took the win by a very narrow margin ahead of Brad Stepehns and Mike Hughes.

The Autocrafters Sport Compacts saw a last lap scramble, work to the benefit of Brandon Allison. Allison appeared to be on his way to another runner up finish to Trent Orwig. but as the leaders came off of turn four to the checkers, Orwig’s car sputtered allowing Allison to shoot by for the win. Josh Modde was able to come home second ahead of Orwig.

The Iowa Sportsman series was also in action on Wednesday night with the long distance specialists running two 25 lap main events. The first race was won by Curtis Kline with Randy Embrey topping the field in the second main event.

Racing action will continue on Wednesday, June 12th with Copeland Collision and Kool Seamless Gutters sponsoring the Memorial Night racing special. Fans and family members can donate money to the purse by sponsoring a finishing position in memory of a fallen loved one or anyone special to the racing family. Donations can be made at the Southern Iowa Fair Office or on race night. Hot laps will take to the track at 7pm with racing to follow.
