Davenport Speedway hosts Iowa Stock Car Championship
DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 22, 2016) – The Davenport Speedway wants everyone to start their Independence Day weekend off with a roar. The roar of engines, that is!
The Davenport track will again host Iowa Governor’s Cup, the official stock car championship of the State of Iowa. The Governor’s Cup will feature a unique two-night format. Thursday, June 30th, races will be held on Davenport’s historic half-mile track. On Friday, July 1st, racers will take on the action-packed quarter-mile oval.
The featured class for the Iowa Governor’s Cup will be IMCA Late Models. Also racing on both nights will be IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and IMCA SportMods. Street Stocks will follow Davenport Speedway weekly rules package.
On Thursday, June 30th, the payout will be:
Late Models $2,000 to win, $250 to start, $75 entry fee,
Modifieds $1,000 to win, $100 to start, $25 entry fee,
Street Stocks $500 to win, $50 to start, no entry fee, and
SportMods $500 to win, $50 to start, no entry fee.
On Friday, July 1st, the payout will be:
Late Models $3,000 to win, $300 to start, $100 entry fee,
Modifieds $1,500 to win, $100 to start, $35 entry fee,
Street Stocks $750 to win, $60 to start, no entry fee, and
SportMods $750 to win, $60 to start, no entry fee.
The driver with the best average finish in each class will be crowned the Iowa Governor’s Cup champion.
The first Iowa Governor’s Cup race was held in 1986, at Hawkeye Raceway. This year’s event marks the third appearance of the Iowa Governor’s Cup at the Davenport Speedway.
The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa.
