Five first time winners on the evening

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 5, 2024) – A wild night of racing action was on tap Friday at Davenport Speedway. The evening provided a little bit of everything. There was rain, a rollover, and lots of wrecked racecars. After the racing program concluded, race fans were also treated to a fireworks show.

Cory Dumpert of Newman Grove, Nebraska made the long haul to Davenport pay off with a victory in The Outhouse and Storage to Go Container Rentals IMCA Late Model feature. It is his first win at Davenport.

Kasey Williams jumped out to a huge lead in the twenty-five lap main. Williams had a six second lead over second place when the caution flag flew on lap eleven. Dumpert started the race in the sixth row, but was running fifth when the caution came. Cory needed another ten laps to get the lead, but once in front, he would pull away from the field.

Williams held on to finish second, ahead of Matt Ryan, Andy Nezworski, and CJ Horn in that order. Dumpert, Michael Leal, and Robbie Jorgensen won the late model heats.

The only repeat winner of the evening came in the Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Modified division. Ben Chapman scored his second victory of the season. Chapman got the point from early race leader Kyle Montgomery on lap four and never looked back. Behind Chapman was a three-abreast battle for second.

Matt Werner worked the high side and had run in second for many laps. Chris Zogg was racing the low line maintaining a top five position. Charlie Mohr steadily worked his way forward from starting position twelve. On the final lap, Mohr went to the middle and made it three-wide.

Mohr got the runner-up spot by two hundredths of a second. Werner edged out Zogg for third by .001 seconds. Mitch Way rounded out the top five. Jeremy Mills brought it home in sixth place.

Seventeen year old Rayce Mullen took home his first Davenport win in D&K Home Products IMCA SportMod action. Mullen led thirteen laps of the fifteen lap race. Logan Veloz charged his way up to second place, but could not close the gap on the leader. Josh Starr finished third. Levi Heath and Dakota Cole were fourth and fifth respectively.

It was checkers or wreckers in the Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock main. Jesse Owen was able to pull away from Donnie Louck on a lap seven restart and lead the rest of the way to the checkers. The victory was Jesse’s first of the season at Davenport. Louck held on to finish second with Austin Riggs third. Cary Brown took fourth and Roger Rickels fifth.

The Thiesen’s IMCA Hobby Stock main was also a crash-filled affair. Lukas Short managed to avoid the carnage and record his first Davenport win. Kaden Staley took second over Karter Miles, Jordan Miles, and Shawn Kraft.

A caution flag in the Fred’s Towing & Cantrell’s Towing 4-Cylinder feature set-up a green-white-checkered finish. Dustin Forbes had led every lap to that point. Now he had Cyle Hawkins and Shawn McDermott on his rear bumper for the final two laps.

Forbes was able to keep the advantage and secure his first Davenport win of the year. Hawkins took second, with McDermott third. Alex Hayes and Trent Lebarge completed the top five.

Next Friday, July 12th, all six weekly stock car classes will be in action. It is also “Christmas in July” at Davenport Speedway. A candy cane giveaway and other activities are planned. For more information, visit our facebook page “Davenport Speedway – SR Promotions”.
