Eight different winners visit victory lane at Independence Motor Speedway
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 26) – It was a busy Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway as three mid-season championship make-up features were held along with a complete program for all five weekly divisions.
Make-up features were held in the IMCA Northern SportMod, IMCA Late Model and IMCA Hobby Stock divisions prior to the regular program.
In the Northern SportMod make-up feature, Tony Olson raced from an eighth row starting spot and made his way around Lucas Lundry to take the lead on the third lap. Olson set sail and went on to record his first SportMod win in Independence.
John Emerson dominated the 25-lap Late Model make-up event. From a second row start, Emerson powered to the lead on the first lap and hid in lapped traffic to take his second win of the season.
Benji Irvine earned his fifth win of the year in the 15-lap make-up feature for the Hobby Stocks. Irvine worked around race-long leader Jim Ball on the final circuit to record the victory.
The first regularly scheduled feature to take the green flag resulted in the first career victory for IMCA Modified driver Tony Snyder. Snyder rocketed into the lead at the drop of the green and built a huge advantage before a trio of cautions bunched the field throughout the middle stages of that 20-lapper.
When racing resumed following a lap 13 caution, Snyder held off pressure from Ronn Lauritzen to score the milestone victory.
Greg Kastli took the lead when the green flag waved in the 25-lap IMCA Late Model main. He built a sizable lead and then survived a pair of late restarts to earn the popular win, his first of the season.
Kevin Rose led from start to finish in the 18-lap IMCA Stock Car feature. Rose held a comfortable margin throughout the event to drive to his first win of the year.
Following a lap three caution, Shawn Kuennen took the lead from Quinton Miller in the 15-lapper for the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Kuennen held off a late surge from Benji Irvine to earn his second win of 2014.
A wild sequence at the end of the IMCA Northern SportMod feature shook up the final running order. Danny Dvorak took the checkers first, however the red flag came out when Lucas Lundry rolled his car in the middle of turns three and four on his way to the checkers.
Dvorak failed to stop under red flag conditions and was disqualified. That handed the win to Matt McCahen, his first of the season.
