Fan Appreciation Night set for Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway with twin 20-lap features for USRA B-Mods

| July 23, 2024

WHEATLAND, MO. (July 22, 2024) – There will be extra racing for a bargain price on Saturday when Lucas Oil Speedway holds its annual Mickey Fleehart Memorial Fan Appreciation Night at the Races.

All fans ages six and over will admitted for $5 with kids 5-and-under free, as usual, for the Big Adventure RV Weekly Championship Series program. The Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mods headline the action, running Twin 20-lap features. The first will see the starting lineup based off the usual heat races and B-Main finishes.

The second one will be unique. The cars will be stopped on the front stretch after the first feature to add fuel, change tires or make adjustments if they opt to during a brief break. Fans will then vote on how to invert the lineup for the second feature – either the first half of the lineup or the entire lineup.

Based on the invert the timing and scoring will reset the field based on the invert and they’ll race another 20-lapper. It will be a full payout for both races, paying $1,000 to win each:

1st – $1,000
2nd – $700
3rd – $600
4th – $450
5th – $350
6th – $300
7th – $250
8th – $200
9th – $175
10th – $150
11th – $130
12th – $120
13th – $110
14th through 24th – $100
Non-qualifiers – $55

Show-Me Vintage Racers return: The always-popular Show-Me Vintage Racing Club Cars also will be on hand as guest class and will be displaying their cars on the midway prior to the event. Fleehart, a founding member and long-time racer for the SMVR, passed away in 2023 and the night’s action will honor his memory.

“We believe that we have the best fans in racing and this is a way to show that we appreciate their support,” Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton said of the discounted admission. “This also is a night to pay tribute to Mickey Fleehart, who meant so much to those with the Show-Me Vintage Racers.”

Points battles head for home stretch: Meanwhile, the Hermitage Lumber POWRi Late Models, Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modifieds and O’Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars also will be in action as the season championship battles head into the final month of the points season.

JC Morton of Springfield continues to lead the USRA B-Mod points battle, 62 in front of Jon Sheets. Jason Pursley of Hermitage, after his fourth top-five finish, leads the USRA Modifieds by 27 over most-recent feature winner Robbie Reed. The USRA Stock Cars has a new points lead this week with William Garner of Lebanon moving to the top after two feature wins to take a 27-point lead over Jaylen Wettengel.

The POWRi Late Model championship continues to see Aurora’s Justin Wells dominate on his way to a successful defense of his 2023 championship. Wells has won nine of 10 features this season and is 370 points clear of Tucker Cox.

Kids Power Wheel races: The next round of Kids’ Power Wheel races will be held during intermission. Youngsters ages 5-12 can bring their own battery-powered cars to the RCR Designs Jr Fan Club sign-in or drop them at the pit gates and they will be brought to the front stretch at intermission.

Flagman Mike Stiegel also will lead a Kids’ Pit Tour prior to the races. Those interested can sign up at the RCR Designs Jr Fan Club table before 5:15 p.m. for a chance to go on the tour.

Pits open at 4 p.m. with grandstands at 4:30. Hot laps begin at 6:30 with racing at 7:05.

Saturday admission:

Kids (5-and-under) – FREE
