WINSTON, MO (May 18, 2013) – As the weather heated up so did the racing action at I-35 Speedway.  In usual form the Grand National racers took to the 3/8 mile to set the stage for an action packed night of racing.  Don Marrs #9 picked up feature win number two of the 2013 racing season with Bud Wilson #75 finishing a close second place.  Austin Johnson #98 battled younger brother Houston Johnson #97 as they would finish in that order for third and fourth.  Rounding out the night’s top five was a strong showing by newcomer Marty Powell #9p.

Getting stronger each week the Midwest Lightning Sprints witnessed a new feature winner as #4 Beau Heavelow found victory lane edging out #60e Mark Billings who would finish second.  Strong run by #71 Tony Layne placed him third while Cody Glover #7 wound up fourth and Ken Billings was fifth.

IMCA Stock Cars saw a Ford in McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane as Jake Cameron #86c edged out all competitors to take the checkers.  Jeff Dixon #88 would challenge Cameron every lap only to finish second.  Point Leader Brad Whitney #x9 raced side by side with Kevin Anderson #417 keeping his consistency going with a solid third place finish, while Anderson #417 would drive his way to fourth.  Todd Fisher #44 fought his way through traffic to finish fifth with some of the best racing of the early 2013 season at I-35 Speedway.

Continuing the great action on the track the IMCA Sport Mod class would continue the side by side racing.  Jumping to an early lead Nic Hanes Dodge powered #9h was challenged every inch of the track by point contender Jeremy Pittsenbarger #32p and Eddie Schwope Jr. #91.  Hanes would eventually find himself the winner with Pittsenbarger second and Schwope third.  Arron Duvall #27s fought off the late challenge of Eddie Schwope III #97 to finish fourth and fifth.

A common theme in the IMCA Hobby Stock class seems to be developing as Kenny Champ #3 finds his way to victory lane.  The sixteen year old national rookie contender would come from the tenth starting position to pass all competitors on his way to earn win number four of the young 2013 season.  Lee Farmer #17f would challenge Champ late yet would have to settle for the runner up spot.  Notching another great run witnessed Mich Ross #34 third. Rookie Cody Doolittle #5 engaged fellow rookie contender Trinedy Barker as they would finish fourth and fifth.  In a great show of rookie driving talent saw rookies finish first, fourth, and fifth; leaving the future of racing in what seems to be good hands.

Fans of I-35 Speedway knew it was only a matter of time before Cory Wray #69n defending track champion found his way to the winners circle.  That night would arrive tonight as Wray would put on display of driving ability by leading every lap of the feature for his first victory of the year.   Darren Shaw #11 would come close late only to finish second as last week’s victor Steven Glenn #26s would drive away third.  Point leader P.J. Conger #19 would come from a tenth place starting position to find his way to fourth place, while veteran Jim Cameron would round out the top five in the finishing order.

Wrapping up the nights activities the Show-Me Vintage Racers took to the track in hopes of taming the 3/8 mile of dirt.  With two visits to I-35 Keith Simmons #5 has both vintage victories as he drove away from the pack.  Second place would see Jack Simmons #21 with Dennis Fair #7x third and John Willheight #65 fourth.  B.J. Page #64 battled hard late only to come up a little short and finish fifth.

I-35 Speedway fans were treated to some of the best racing action of the season on Military Appreciation Day as we paid tribute to our troops.  We would like to thank all of our valued race fans for their continued support.  We look forward to seeing you all again next week for “Dirt Trackin at its Best”
