Gade Scores First Quad City Speedway Feature Win
By Brad Hines
EAST MOLINE, IL (July 22, 2012) – After six consecutive top five finishes, Clarence, Iowa’s, Emily Gade, nicknamed “Lil Miss Dangerous”, finally punched her ticket for victory lane Sunday night at the Quad City Speedway.
In the 15 lap Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature Gade patience navigated her #6 Ford from seventh to first in the first eight laps. Gade mainly used the very top side of the track, up against the wall, to pick up for first career Quad City Speedway win, much to the delight of the fans in the stands. Keith Blum would take second followed by Dwaine Hasson, who start 13th, R.J. Gonzales, and Steve Gustaf Sr.
Thad Wilson continued his winning ways in the Orion Tire Repair IMCA Modifieds. A caution with 15 laps down was the break Wilson needed to get by late race leader Brian Bushong. John Ahlers would sneak by Bushong for second with Aaron Burroughs and Todd Dykema completing the top five.
Geneseo’s Shon Sanders completed the clean sweep in the Mod Lites Sunday night. After winning the second heat races, Sanders would go on to lead all put one lap of 12 lap feature. Sanders did have his hands full the entire race with second place finisher Bryan Brinker. Third was Dan Guss followed by David Norton, and Brad Lucy.
Another impressive field of Verplaetse Excavating UMP Modifieds checked in Sunday night. Donovan Lodge, in his familiar #32, dominated the 20 lap feature. Drawing the pole position, Lodge would go relatively untouched en route to his first QCS victory of the 2012 season. Second place finisher Ray Bollinger would come all the way from 11th, while the third place finisher, Milo Veloz Jr., would come from the 12th starting spot. Fourth and fifth went John Bull and Brock Bauman respectively.
Once again “The River City Hustler” Ray Guss Jr. waited until there were 2 laps to go to make his move for the lead. Todd Malmstrom, who started seventh, would take control of the early win, using the bottom side of the track down around the tires. Guss preferred a different line all the way on the top. Every lap Guss would get closer and closer but it wasn’t until lap 28 before Guss would take of the lead completely and win another feature at QCS.
The Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4-Cylinders saw another first timer pick up the win. Jason Blocker took full advantage of his outside front row starting spot to collect his first win at QCS in 2012. Zach Bollinger would take second in his first visit to QCS coming from the tenth starting spot. Eric Stogdell would finish fourth with Zach Dahl taking fifth.
