Grandstand full of race fans ready to watch the dirt fly at I-35
Dylan Vore: Track Announcer
WINSTON, MO (August 3, 2024) – Another Saturday night (8-3-24) at the races brought fast racing in all 9 classes and a grandstand full of race fans ready to watch the dirt fly! With the summer heat, it took no time at all to get the track prepped and ready for heat racing. After all the heat races finished up, we had our Stinky Foot Race during intermission. All kids 12 and under were divided by age groups, then raced on foot down the front-stretch. The winner in each division was awarded a trophy, and all participants got a bag full of candy.
Moving into the feature races, Brad Mick had to borrow a car from Ryan Hinkle to collect his 7th feature win in the sport compacts. CJ Turner used his front row starting position to go back-to-back in Pure Stocks. Grant Sheetz also goes back-to-back in Jr. Sport Compacts; this is Sheetz 15th win this season.
Tyler Hibner battled Paul Glendenning in the Midwest Limited Late Models early, but Hibner was able to pull away and collect the feature win, Hibner’s 4th feature win in the late models and first since June 15th. Jake Richards held of a fast-charging Lonnie Hibner to grab his 2nd USRA B-Mod feature win of the season. Nic Hanes got himself back in victory lane in the USRA Stock Cars. This was Hanes 10th feature win, beginning this year with 8 consecutive wins. Tyler Hibner made it 3 in a row in USRA Modifieds, this was Hibner’s 11th Modified feature win.
Mike Lefholz waited until Turn 4 of the last lap to pass his dad Ron in the Vintage Open feature. This was Mike Lefholz 6th Vintage Open feature win. Casey Burnett parked in victory lane again in the E-Mods, passing Chris Dishong in a late restart. Burnett has tallied 5 feature wins in the E-mods this season.
For those in attendance that saw our Flagman get hit by track debris, we are happy to report he went home with a chest bruise after a medical facility visit. He will see everyone next Saturday.
A huge shoutout to all our track and safety officials for keeping the track fast and everyone safe throughout the night. We had another fast-paced night of racing, finishing our last feature race before 10:15. Thank you to all the drivers for putting on a great show all night. We will be back next Saturday night for our Kids Back to School Bash, where the first 100 kids at the track will receive school supplies for the upcoming school year.
