Havlik Records First Ever Win

Story by Josh Reynolds

STUART, IA (July 15) – On the third Sunday in July the greatest fans and drivers around returned to Stuart Speedway on a hot afternoon to witness some of the greatest racing of the season so far! Alex Davis, Kody Havens, Jeff Joldersma, Devon Havlik, John Watson and Andy Forcht visited victory lane on Kinzie Service Night at the Races.

IMCA Sport Compacts were the first feature to grace the stage with Scott Brown and Jordan Peters on the front row. Alex Davis would move from his fourth starting spot to take over on lap one and that would be all the action in this race as Davis led the distance for his first win at the track. Deavon Richards came home second with Peters third and Brown fourth. Davis was also the heat race winner.

Joe Simbro and Casey Greubel brought out the IMCA Northern Sportmods next for their fifteen lap feature. Third starting Kody Havens moved by the front row starters to take the lead on lap one with Greubel close behind. Last week’s winner, Ty Luellen, moved into third on lap four and past Greubel for second on lap ten. Havens encountered lap traffic on lap twelve as Luellen set his sights on his second straight win, but it was not to be as Havens stayed strong to pick up his first win of the year in the caution free event! Luellen crossed in second with Nick Roberts third, Greubel fourth and Mike Pruitt fifth. Havens and Greubel were the heat race winners.

IMCA Stock Cars were up next with Derrick Rohe and Ron Godwin showing the way. Rohe led early with Godwin and Bryan Snell close behind. Ninth starting Jeff Joldersma moved past Snell on lap seven and Godwin on lap ten with Brian Blessington following. Joldersma and Blessington followed Rohe until lap seventeen when Joldersma slid up in front of Rohe to take the lead. Contact between the top cars forced Rohe to retire with mechanical issues. Joldersma would lead the rest of the way to take his third win of the season. Blessington finished in second with Jeff Anderson third, Marcus Fagan fourth and Jeremy Gettler fifth. Joldersma, Rohe and Fagan were the heat race winners.

Ed Seibert and Devon Havlik led out the IMCA Modifieds next for their twenty lap feature, and what a race it would be! Havlik showed the way early with first Rex Parkison and then Jimmy Gustin in second. Gustin passed Havlik on lap fourteen, but Havlik powered by on the top side to take back the lead a lap later. Parkison broke on lap sixteen, bringing out the only caution of the race and setting up a fantastic last four laps! Havlik held the lead on the top side with his uncle, Randy Havlik, pushing Devon in every corner. Randy moved under and took the lead in turn three on lap eighteen only to have Devon cross over and under Randy out of turn four to take the lead back. The last two laps were the Havlik show as the two stayed close with Devon pulling out the win, his first ever in the class. Randy finished in second with Gustin third, Josh Gilman fourth and Shay Woods fifth. Devon and Randy not only put on the show in the feature, but they were the heat race winners as well.

IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next with Andrew Burg and Austin Luellen on the front row. Luellen took the point early with Jamie Songer right behind. John Watson moved past Songer on lap five and Luellen on lap six to take the lead. Jason Kohl passed Songer and Brandon Pruitt on lap twelve and began a battle with Luellen, but the two ran out of time as Watson took his third win of the year at the track. Luellen finished in second with Kohl third, Burg fourth and Aaron Rudolph fifth. Watson and Luellen were the heat race winners.

Scott Brown and Deavon Richards set the pace for the 6 Cylinder FWD’s, the second to last event for the night. Fourth starting and heat race winner Andy Forcht moved into the lead on lap one and never looked back in picking up the win, his fifth of the year. Alex Davis finished in second with Richards third, Jordan Peters fourth and Brown fifth.

Last up for the night was a Mechanics race with Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks the cars being used. Ben McMenamin in Jamie Schirm’s Stock Car and Colton Graham in Gina Greubel’s Hobby Stock started on the front row with Curt Ganoe in Jamie Songer’s Hobby Stock leading the first five laps. On lap six the Stock Car of Norm Belew with Chris Pruitt behind the wheel took the lead with the Stock Car of Marcus Fagan being driven by Adam Ayers close behind. Pruitt would lead the distance over Ayers to take the win with Gary Bass in John Watson’s Hobby Stock third, Drew Belgarde in Austin Luellen’s Hobby Stock fourth and Kyle Eaton in Rick Houseman’s Stock Car fifth.

We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track on another hot Sunday evening. Join us next week for Ruby’s Pub Night at the Races. We will have the first ever Sport Compact Shootout where the winner will take home $225. Also, the IMCA Late Models join us for the fourth installment of their now nine race summer series at the speedway! See you there!
