I-35 Speedway

By: Phillip Wilson-I-35 Speedway Announcer/P.R.

One hundred and forty four (144) cars jam packed the pits at I-35 Speedway for this beautiful Memorial Day weekend as we honored the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve this great country on Casey’s night at I-35 Speedway.

The Emods for a second straight week wowed the crowd as they put on a whale of a show. The battle early was between the only 2 winners so far this season “Rowdy” Chris Dishong, “The Nighthawk” Michael Taylor III as well as Jaden Polley, Bo and Josh Adkins and Josh Marshall. In the end Dishong would capture his fourth win of 2021 at I-35 Speedway. Second went to Taylor III, third to Marshall, fourth to George Burnett and Adam Dunwoodie with another strong run in fifth. Heat race wins went to Taylor III, Polley, Dishong and Bo Adkins. Kenny Reed picked up the B-Main win. James Silkwood would come through the B-Feature and gain 12 spots in the A to be the hard charger.

The Pure Stocks proved once again that they can compete with any class when it comes to putting on a show as they put on another masterpiece for the fans. Conrad Kaufman, Brandon Dixon, Blaine and Rieli Yonts and Colton Couch ran bumper to bumper to door to door for the whole 12 laps. In the end Kaufman finally got around Dixon to pick up his second win of the season. Dixon held on to finish second, Blaine Yonts was third, Colton Couch was fourth and fifth went to Rieli Yonts. Heat race wins went to Blaine Yonts and Johnny Price. Mike Miller gained 6 positions to be the hard charger.

The Show-Me Vintage were on hand for the third time this season. Jeff Siler led almost the entire 15 lap feature but the last few laps before Damon Clevenger would get by to pick up win number 2 on the season. Siler, Clevenger, and Larry Waters ran three wide for much of the race. Waters would finish second, Mickey Fleehart made a last lap dash to finish third, Siler held on for fourth and Steven Rock finished fifth. Heats race wins went to Daniel Schmidt and Clevenger. Hard charger also went to Clevenger.

Sport Compact were next to make their way to the track. Isaiah Penton proved to be to much to hold back as he made the pass for the lead on David Miller for his first win of the season at I-35 Speedway. Miller a 2-time feature winner this season was right in tow finishing second, Devin Schmidt would finish third, Keegan Russell was fourth and Harold Robb Sr. was fifth. Miller and Penton picked up the heat wins with Brad Mick getting the hard charger.

The Midwest Limited Late Models almost went green to checker in their 20 lap A Feature. Kerry Davis led most of the race until a late race caution allowed Houston Johnson to sneak by to get Late Model win number 1 on the season. Davis finished second, Tommy Cordray was third, Mike Taylor Jr. finished fourth and Brad Dibben was fifth. The heat race win went to Taylor Jr. with Johnson gaining 5 spots to win the hard charger.

USRA B-Mod action was hot and heavy, and Shadren Turner said he was done being the bridesmaid. Turner with plenty of runner up finishes this season to Tyler Cadwallader decided to flip the script and pick up his first win of 2021. Cadwallader in a role reversal found his way around newcomer Matthew Kay to finish second ending his five-race win streak. Kay led early but ended up third, Lonnie Hibner was in the mix early finished fourth and Dustin Crist in his first appearance this season was fifth. Heat wins went to Turner, Kay and Hibner. Hard charger of the race was Jace Whitt gaining 13 spots.

Last week Jeff Dixon lost an engine in the USRA Stock Car feature. This week the backup motor proved to be a better bullet as he rode the outside line to victory for the first time this season. Dixon battled early with Doug Keller and Connor Masoner eventually getting by Keller for the win. Tim Shields driving Tommy Grounds 33T machine was right there when the dust settled and finished second, Shadren Turner doing double duty finished third, Michael Knight with another impressive run finished fourth and Jim Masoner Jr. took his green hotrod to a fifth-place finish. Heat race wins went to Connor Masoner, Keller and Matthew Lance with the hard charger going to Michael Knight gaining 19 positions.

USRA Modifieds were last for their 20 lap A Feature. Ed Noll led much of the race before his 15-machine started to puff out a little smoke. As the race wore on the smoke got worse and with about 5 laps to go Noll was forced to pull into the pits. Chase Rudolf was right there to inherit the lead and pick up his first ever USRA Modified feature win. Rudolf battled most of the race with Birthday Boy Daniel Harris, who finished second gaining a lot of confidence. Houston Johnson another double duty driver joined Shadren Turner by winning one class while finishing third in the other, Shayne Bailey a leader early on finished fourth and Cody Owens with a strong showing finished fifth. Bailey and Noll were the heat race winners and Houston Johnson was the hard charger.
