WINSTON, MO (May, 20, 2023) – 116 (one hundred sixteen) cars checked in for McCarthy Auto Group night at I-35 Speedway as everyone came together as a family to celebrate the life of one of the good guys, Michael Silkwood. We had great racing as the T&T Builders Kids Power Wheels racers joined us for the first time in 2023.
We started off in the E-Mods as one of the favorites to compete for the track championship coming into the season, picked up his first win of 2023. Aaron Jones found himself in McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane holding off a massive charge late from second place finisher Tony Layne. Current points leader Adam Dunwoodie, the winner from the previous three weeks survived from the tenth starting spot to finish third, Josh Marshall followed Dunwoodie to the front finishing fourth and Nathan Hampton continues his strong season, finishing fifth.
In Pure Stock competition points leader Jeffrey Sears collected his fifth win of the 2023 season in seven starts. Sears had to hold off challenges from Jon Boller Jr. and the defending track champion Ava Dixon who finished second and third. Jakub Hisel ran up front all race long finishing fourth and Johnnie Price picked up fifth.
The defending Midwest Limited Late Model track champion Ed Noll would motor to his second feature win of the season as he used the high side of the track to perfection. Noll would have some stiff competition from Houston Johnson, the current points leader, Paul Glendenning, Tommy Cordray and Michael Dotson who all garnered a top five finish.
Next up were the USRA B-Mods and they left the fans on the edge of their seat. Numerous battles throughout the field would heat up the crowd as Tyler Cadwallader and Daniel Harris would duke it out for their first win of the season at I-35 Speedway. When the checkered flag flew it was Tyler Cadwallader, the defending track champion standing tall in victory lane. Current points leader Daniel Harris finished second. Another battle that left the fans in awe was that of Corey Myers and Truman Asher. Myers finished third with Asher fourth and Josh Barnes had a great run finishing fifth.
The Medieval USRA Stock Cars brought a season high twenty entries as drivers are gearing up for the Finished Strong Mike Tanner Memorial on June 10th. A race that pays the Medieval USRA Stock Car winner $2,020 as well as a boost in pay throughout the feature. Doug Keller would pick up his second win of 2023 as he drove the low line to perfection and held off stout competition with Kristchon Hisel finishing second, Scott Carlson third, points leader Jeff Dixon fourth and Shayne Bailey recovering from an earlier incident in fifth.
USRA Modified driver Darren Shaw would come into the 2023 season with a new number on the side of his race car. Shaw added a 7 to his familiar number 11 and would park his 711 machine in McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane for his first win of 2023 in only his 3rd start. Shaw would ride the very outside of the track, almost jumping the cushion a few times but the veteran driver would not be denied. Points leader, Houston Johnson moved up to finish second, Lee Hibner, ran inside the top three most of the race finished third, Chad Clancy would be in numerous battles as he finished fourth and Austin Johnson in his first race of the season would motor his way up to a fifth-place finish.
Brad Mick, the Sport Compact points leader would pick up his third feature win in a row which means this next Saturday he will be starting from the 10th position. Mick once again waged war with the defending rookie of the year Jonnathon Hartman, who finished second, Harold Robb Jr. had a good run finishing third, Brad Aleshire was fourth and Chris Lewis fifth.
In the Junior Sport Compacts Eddy Noll would continue his red-hot season making his sixth trip to McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane. Brycen Bouzek continues to get faster as he finished second, Maddy Barr showed improved speed as she finished third. Payton Hanes, with one win on her resume came home fourth and Katelyn Fleming picked up fifth.
It was the first race of the T&T Builders out of Lamoni, Iowa kids power wheels as five twelve-volt competitors checked in. Cason Arbuckle picked up the win, second went to Bryar Dunn, third place was Sawyer Jones, fourth Jackson Keller and fifth was McKenna Campbell. The next T&T Builders Power Wheels race will be on June 24th.
