WHEATLAND, MO (June 25, 2014) -Two pivotal stops are just days away for Lucas Oil MLRA drivers with events slated at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska and Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa.

Action begins Friday, June 27 at the Kosiski family’s high-banked I-80 Speedway for the 13th running of the annual ‘Alphabet Soup Race’ featuring not only the Lucas Oil MLRA drivers, but also the MARS DIRTcar Series, and Corn Belt Clash (CBC) Late Model Series regulars gunning for $3,700-to-win.

One year ago during the Alphabet Soup race, eventual winner Ryan Gustin launched himself into the world of Late Model racing. By virtue of his win, Gustin earned a provisional starting spot for the later-contested Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway, where he thrilled the crowd during a breathtaking run from 34th on the starting grid all the way to first, before ultimately making contact with a lapped car and exiting the race shortly after taking the lead.

Gustin, fresh off an MLRA win at Humboldt Speedway, is just one driver to keep an eye on this weekend. Terry Phillips of Springfield, Missouri is another one to watch. Phillips is a multiple-time I-80 winner who picked up his latest win there in April when he and Rodney Sanders both scored Spring Meltdown victories.

Grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps begin at 6:45, with racing at 7:15. Pit gates open at 4. Adult general admission is $20, “Juniors” aged 6 to 12 are $5, children five and under are free. The speedway sits just north of I-80 at exit 420. The actual location is 13909, 238th Street in Greenwood, Nebraska. Find the track online at www.i-80speedway.com or call (402)-342-3453.

On Saturday, June 28th, at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, the three series compete together once again during the Liberty 50 for a cool $5,000 to win!

Last year, defending Lucas Oil MLRA Champion Tony Jackson, Jr., claimed the victory. Jesse Stovall drove to victory in 2012 with Chad Simpson claiming the victory during the event in 2011.

Adult General Admission is $20, Jr. High School aged $10, K-6 Free, Family Pack $50. Hot laps begin at 6:15 with racing at 7. Visit the track online at www.acspeedway.com or call 641-322-4184.

Regarding the weekend events, MLRA Competition Director Ernie Leftwich stated, “This is one weekend that I really look forward to; the MLRA Series has been part of the “Soup Race” for a number of years now. The race at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood is what I feel is a practice run for our regional drivers to gear up for the Silver Dollar Nationals.

Leftwich also stated, “Adams County Speedway is one of our bigger paying races. Not only are you getting the “Stars and Cars” of the Lucas Oil MLRA Series, but you have a mixture of drivers from the MARS Dirt Car Series and the Corn Belt Series as well.”

Heading into this weekend’s action, Iowa’s Chris Simpson leads the Lucas Oil MLRA standings ahead of Terry Phillips, Travis Dickes, Jeremy Payne, and Dave Eckrich. For additional information and event details, visit www.mlraracing.com.
