IMCA RETURNS TO SOUTHERN IOWA SPEEDWAY FOR FROST BUSTER PRESENTED BY MUSCO LIGHTING

OSKALOOSA, IA (April 4, 2012) – The return of IMCA racing in over nine years at the Southern Iowa Speedway with a total of 125 cars checked into the pit area in four classes. A mixture of locals to many different states represented and even drivers from Canada making the long drive to experience the Mahaska County Monster ½ mile. This was the first of five nights of action in the state. The title sponsor was local business MUSCO Lighting who lights up everything from the Olympics to the Daytona 500 and the Southern Iowa Speedway.

The first feature was the IMCA hobby stock divison with Bill Bonnett of Knoxville and Shannon Anderson of Urbandale battling for the lead several times. The caution flag would fly on lap seven with Anderson beating Bonnett to the line and would restart in the lead. Anderson would hold off a late charge from Eric Stanton of Hartford who settled for the runner-up spot to Anderson who took the win. Bonnett took the third spot with Danny Thrasher of Agency taking fourth.

In the second feature the IMCA stock car division Texas driver JC Howell of Gun Barrel, Texas would take the early lead and would try to hold off Wisconsin driver John Heinz who would make the pass for the lead and hold off several challenges and another Wisconsin driver Justin Jacobsen who travel together and the two would take the first and second finishing spots. The battle for third would see local Oskaloosa driver Kyle Harwood pass Howell with two laps reaming for the third spot with Howell in fourth.

The third feature of the night was the IMCA sportmod feature with Kansas hot shoe and 2011 National Champion Bryan Lariviere of Wichita leading all sixteen laps to take the win his first ever visit to the Southern Iowa Speedway. A pair of brothers from Minburn, Iowa would take the second and third spot with Clint Luellen taking second and Ty Luellen in third. Ty raced his way through a B-main to finish in third and the fourth spot went to Racer Hulin of Laurel.

The fourth and final feature was the IMCA A-modifieds with local driver from Keswick Andrew Schroeder leading the field to the green from the pole position and lead all twenty laps for the win but after post race inspection was disqualified for stud girdles giving the win to the second place driver Richie Gustin of Marshalltown. The third place finisher from Mooresville, North Carolina Kyle Strickler who would finish in the second spot and Mark Elliott of Webster City in third and Lance Arneson of Oconto Falls, WI. And Nascar star Kenny Schrader of Concord, North Carolina taking sixth.

Next week will be the season opener with the first night of points racing with hot laps at 7PM and racing action at 7:30PM. Hope to see you at the races.
