McCOOK, NE. (June 22, 2012) – The 2012 theme for the Red Willow County Fair is “Where The Action Is”. On Thursday, July 26, the action will be at McCook Speedway, on the fairgrounds.  Fans will watch the action that drivers from at least a three state area will create on the action-sized 3/8-mile racetrack as they race for the increased fair purse.  The races are set to begin at 7:30 PM, Central Time, with the gates opening at 5:30 p.m.  Four classes will be on hand that night.  Heat races and potential B Features will be run to qualify the cars for the A Features. Lineups for heat races and for the front rows of the A Features will be determined by the draw rather than by points.

Headlining the show will be “The Class Too Tough To Tame”, the IMCA Stock Cars.  The Stock Cars have put on great races for the past decade at McCook Speedway.  The added purse should increase the action with harder charging from the regular drivers mixed in with the toughness of out-of-area invaders.  If the Stock Cars can get 24 or more cars in the pits, they will run for $1,000.00 to win.  The IMCA Northern SportMod division has caught on well in the Southwest Nebraska region, and they will be looking for increased payout as well.  If 20 or more SportMods grace the pits of McCook Speedway that night, the winner will take home $500.  The IMCA Modifieds and the 305 Sprint cars will also run, and race for $400 to win (each based on 10 cars).

The Stock Car, Northern SportMod, and Modified classes will be sanctioned that night by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA), and they will also run for national, regional, and state points.  The 305 Sprint Cars will not be sanctioned, but the car specifications must follow the area IMCA rules or those of the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS).

There will not be an entry fee for the cars, nor will there be a registration fee required by cars that have not raced at McCook Speedway yet this year.  Pit passes are $25 per person. The admission in the grandstands will be $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6 – 12, and children five and under are free. Advanced grandstand tickets may be purchased from the Red Willow County Fair Board Office. McCook Speedway and the Red Willow County Fairgrounds are towards the northwest side of McCook at the corner of Q and West 5th Streets; north of U. S. Highways 6 and 34 on West 5th St., and east of U. S. Highway 83 on Q St. For more information, contact the fair board member Jay Schilling 308-340-4201 or track board chairman Chuck Gray at 308-350-1811.  The track website is www.mccookspeedway.com.
