KNOXVILLE, IOWA (July 24, 2012) – The inaugural “Capitani Classic” for winged 410-cubic-inch sprint cars, will take place on Sunday, August 5, at the Knoxville Raceway as part of the eleventh annual Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speed Week. The 25-lap, 24-car ‘A’main will pay $5000 to win and $500 to start, and will be a points-paying round for the Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series.

According to Knoxville Raceway general manager Toby Kruse, “We are very excited to be honoring Ralph ‘Cappy’ Capitani in this way for his decades of service to Knoxville Raceway and the Marion County Fair Association. We think this is going to be a great new tradition at the ‘Sprint Car Capital of the World’ and we look forward to crowning its first champion on Sunday, August 5. The ‘410’ sprint cars will be the only division on the card, the format will be the same as our standard Saturday night show, and grandstand tickets are only twenty dollars each for adults. With it being the final tune-up for the 52nd annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals, August 8-11, you never know who will be in attendance to claim ‘the Cappy’!”
