Independence Motor Speedway cancels June 6 special

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 5, 2013) – Due to wet track and pit area conditions, the Thursday, June 6, Entry Level Extravaganza at Independence Motor Speedway has been canceled.

Although the special event for IMCA SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts will not be rescheduled, the increased purse planned for that event will be offered during an upcoming weekly program at the speedway.

SportMods will run for $500-to-win, Hobby Stocks $300-to-win and Sport Compacts $200-to-win during the weekly program Saturday, June 22.

“We typically run those divisions as support classes during special events,” explained promoter Darin Burco. “Although the weather hasn’t allowed us the proper time to prep the track for their own mid-week special, we want to show our appreciation for all of those drivers by giving them an extra night to race for a bigger purse.”

The Saturday, June 22 program will be a points night for all six weekly divisions. Regular Saturday spectator and pit pass admission prices will remain the same that night.

The Stock Cars will also compete for increased purse money during a weekly program to be determined later this season.

The next event at the speedway is Ferguson Enterprises Scout Night, scheduled for this Saturday, June 8. All Boy, Girl and Cub Scouts in uniform will be admitted at no charge and offered a free hot dog and juice box. All kids in attendance will be invited to take part in a candy dash during intermission, sponsored by Superior Cleaning Services and Independence Plumbing, Heating and Cooling.

A handful of drivers will have their cars on display behind the grandstands prior to the races for kids to get an up-close look at the race cars.

Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students ages 12-17. Pit passes are $25.
