“Iowa Dirt Nationals” Set records At Maquoketa Speedway

Maquoketa, Iowa: The final race of the 2024 season was held this past weekend at the Maquoketa Speedway as the “ Iowa Dirt Nationals” were run with three near perfect weather days greeting record setting car counts and large crowds. The action got underway on Thursday, October 17th with a practice session and the five makeup features of the All Star Classic that was cut short back on September 14th due to rain that moved into Maquoketa cutting the race program short. Ethan Braaksma scored the win in the Modified feature, David Brandies topped the Stock Car main event, Brayton Carter raced to the win in the Sportmod class, Eric Knutson took the win the Hobby Stocks and Jake Benischek topped the 4 Stock division.

Friday night was the opening night of the “Iowa Dirt Nationals” with 206 competitors packing the infield on the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Winners on Friday night included Drew Janssen in the Modified class, Brandon Schmitt took top honors in the Stock Cars, Brayton Carter scored the win by inches in the Sportmod feature, Eric Knutson took the checkers first in the Hobby Stocks, Dustin Forbes captured the win in the 4 Stocks and Bart Miller topped the AIRS main event.

Saturday night was a record setter for Darkside promotions as a new car count record was established as 236 drivers took part in the final night of the “Iowa Dirt Nationals”.

Winners on Saturday night were Brandon Schmitt in the very tough Modified class, Dallon Murty proved to be the class of the field in the Stock Cars, Logan Anderson made a late race pass to win the Sportmod main event, Cyle Hawkins scored his 99th career 4 Stock win, Michael Weber took the win in the INEX Legends main, Brandon Bombardo traveled to Maquoketa all the way from New Prague, MN and took the Hobby Stock win, Ray Guss Jr. drove the Keith Simmons owned Vintage Late Model to the win for the final race of the #38 John Connolly tribute car, and the team of Jerry and Karter Miles topped the two man Outlaw Cruisers, Darkside Promotions will be holding a 2024 Awards night on Saturday, November 30th at the Timber Center and Bowling Alley. A 9 Pin tournament will be held and season long racing awards will be presented prior to live music being presented.
