WINSTON, MO (April 12, 2014) – Grand National action got the exciting night of racing at I-35 Speedway started off right as they went green to white to checkers in their feature.  The Moose was truly loose on this night of racing as Houston Johnson #97 would dominate both the heat race and the feature, for his first victory of this young 2014 season.  Racing action followed suit behind “The Moose” as veteran drivers Buz Kaster #54 and Don Marrs #9 would use the entire race to settle second and third.  When the checkers dropped Kaster would finish second, holding Marrs to place third.  “The Sensation” Austin Johnson #98 would charge from the back of the back to place fourth, while Marty “Biggen” Powell #9p would round out the top five.

USRA Hobby Stocks would see the #34 of Mich Ross pick up victory number two this season after winning his heat race earlier in the night.  Billie Hoover #21h would finish a close second and Gary Ainsworth #83 third.

A familiar face was back in victory lane as #57 Randy Ainsworth would battle every lap to win the USRA B-Modified feature.  Doug Keller #7k  would try Ainsworth high and low both yet come up just a little short on every attempt, only to fade late and settle for a fourth place finish.  Yancy Shepard #20y would be the hard charger of the event, making a late race challenge for the lead but could not overtake Ainsworth.  Shepard would hold off Chad Clancy #21c to place second forcing Clancy to third.  As always #17x of Clint Baker was in the mix for the lead and would cruise to a solid fifth place finish.  Heat race winners were Randy Ainsworth, Doug Keller, Chad Clancy, and Clint Baker.

In true form the USRA Stock Cars never disappoint, with the two winningest drivers at I-35 Speedway battling again for a feature win.  Heat race winner Thomas Roberts #65x would lead every lap on the way to picking up the feature victory.  Fellow heat race winner Dean Wray #77 would challenge Roberts nearly every turn of every lap to end the night in second place.  Battle of the two purple machines witnessed Jake Cameron #86c finish third, and Richard Moulton #18 fourth.  The racing lady Tracy Summers #75 found the 3/8 mile of dirt to her liking to post a solid fifth place finish.

USRA Modifieds witnessed an epic battle with five drivers all vying for the top spot.  When the smoke had cleared and the checkers dropped Dennis Elliott #29 would pick up win number two for the 2014 racing season.  Matt Gilbertson #23x, all the way from Minnesota, would lead early as he tried to hold off the onslaught of competitors with the likes of Elliott, Jim Hopkins, Ryan Schaffer, Trevor Hunt, Zach Sanders, David Wood, and Bud Wilson.  Jim Hopkins would develop mechanical issues leaving Elliott and Gilbertson to battle it out for the lead.  The second place finisher of Zach Sanders #69, starting rear of the field, would use late race cautions to move Gilbertson to third.  Recovering from an earlier race mishap young gun Trevor Hunt #99h would get around Ryan Schaffer #r21 to finish fourth, leaving Schaffer fifth.  Heat race winners included Jeff Smith #29s and Matt Gilbertson #23x.

Making their first appearance at I-35 Speedway Non-Wing Sprint car driver John Helm #12 would find his way to victory lane.  Kenny Potter #55 would challenge often but could not get by the speedy Helm and would place second.  Chris Parkinson #65 would race his way to finish third as Josh Stephens #09 would be fourth.  Heat race winner Bob Thoman #27 would round out the nights top five.

Intermission activities for the night witnessed heated action in the “Stinky Foot Races” with all competitors being declared winners.  Two I-35 Speedway drivers took the “Plunge for Landon” as Thomas Roberts, orange shorts and all, and Tony Layne would jump in the freezing water for a great cause.  Thanks guys!

I-35 Speedway would like to send out special Thanks for your generosity in helping the Tony and Liz Manley family recover from their house fire earlier in the week.  We invite everyone back next week for what promises to be another great night of USRA racing action on Larry McFee Trucking Night at the Races.  Show-Me Vintage racers will also be on hand as we turn back the clock for the days of old and visit memory lane as they take to the dirt.  Intermission activity will witness two lucky fans play pin the ribbon on the race car on the front straightaway.  Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, April 26th as the USMTS invades I-35 Speedway.  See everyone next week for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
