Jake Griffin Records First Asphalt Modified Win at Hawkeye Downs
QUINCY IL (June 4, 2012) – 13-year-old, Jake Griffin achieved another milestone in his career on Friday night by claiming the feature win in the asphalt Open Wheel Modified division at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
Friday night was a great outing for the team as Jake claimed his first official asphalt Open Wheel Modified win with a triumph at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) on Cassill Motors Night at the facility. He began the night by finishing second in his heat race, and then he stormed to the win in the main event. He was followed across the finish line by Ryan Luedtke, Brian Gibson, Craig Bender, and Arlo Becker.
He would back up his great performance in the Modified division by registering a fifth place finish in the main event in the asphalt Late Model division behind race winner, Thor Anderson, Brad Osborn, Jay Jaspers, and Zach Less. Full results from both divisions are available at www.HawkeyeDownsSpeedway.com.
An elated Griffin commented, “I can’t thank all of my great sponsors and supporters for their incredible help so far this year. It was very exciting to get my first win on the pavement, and hopefully it’s the first of many to come this year.”
On Saturday evening the team took their #08 Bob Pierce/Dirt Open Wheel Modified into battle at the dirt track at Montgomery County Speedway (Florence, Missouri) in a Weekly Racing Series Event. The night started well for Griffin as he claimed his heat race win to earn a front-row-starting spot for the feature. In the main event he was leading the twenty-two car grid by a straightaway, when bad luck struck as a mechanical failure knocked him out of the event.
On Sunday evening Jake Griffin Motorsports was able to dodge Mother Nature as they entered a pair of divisions at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois). In the UMP Open Wheel Modified division a strong field of twenty-two competitors registered for action, and Griffin began his night by charging from the seventh starting spot to a second place finish in the third heat race, which locked him into the third starting spot for the main event. In the feature he would race at the front of the pack for the duration of the event before crossing the finish line in fourth behind race winner, Michael Long, David Wietholder, and Jared Schlipman.
The UMP Super Late Model division also saw a talented field of twenty-one competitors in action, and after finishing fourth in his heat race he locked into the twelfth starting spot for the main event. In the feature he would race around mid-pack for much of the event before registering a fourteenth place finish at the checkered flag. Full results for both divisions are available at www.QuincyRaceways.com.
This coming weekend, June 8th-10th, the team will enter a trio of events. On Friday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) Jake will go after his second straight win at the facility as he takes part in the Open Wheel Modified and Late Model divisions. On Saturday night, the team will return to Montgomery County Speedway (Florence, Missouri) for a Weekly Racing Series Event before concluding the weekend at Quincy Raceways (Quincy, Illinois) on Sunday night.
