Johnson Ridge Development Night at the Races at I-35 Speedway
WINSTON, MO (March 5, 2014) – Making the pull from Shawnee Kansas “The Alien” Don Marrs #9 would take full advantage of a pole position starting spot in the Grand National class to lead every lap on his way to victory in both the heat race and the feature. After leading in the heat race and developing mechanical problems, “The Sensation” Austin Johnson #98 would recover from a last place starting position and charge his way to a second place finishing position. Week one feature winner Buz Kaster #54 would hold off the hard charge by Houston Johnson #97 to place third and fourth respectively. In his first race this 2014 racing season Marty Powell #9p would finish a solid fifth.
USRA Hobby Stocks were low in number yet high in quality as the front two cars would battle side by side on every lap. Billie Hoover #21h would lead all but the last ninety feet as 2014 track champion Mich Ross #34 would pick up the win on the last turn causing Hoover to settle for second. Newcomer to the hobby stock class Gary Ainsworth #83 would come home third.
Back with a vengeance the #7k of Doug Keller would battle his way to the front of the pack in the USRA B-Mod’s to claim victory. Keller and Jeremy Pittsenbarger #32p would swap the lead throughout most of the race, entertaining all race fans in attendance. Pittsenbarger would be forced into second as he held off week one winner Chad Clancy #21c, who would place third. Up and comer #11c of Chad “Lead-foot” Feather would mount another impressive run as he, still celebrating his Border War bonus, would end the night in fourth place. Jacob Bleess #21, all the way from Minnesota, would find the 3/8 mile of dirt to his liking and round out the night’s top five.
Two familiar faces would battle again for the top spot in the always competitive USRA Street Stock. “Hollywood” Dean Wray #77 would jump out to an early lead setting a blistering pace only to see the lead disappear as the #65x of Thomas Roberts would earn the nights top spot. Wray would challenge Roberts often yet would have to settle for second place. “Big” Jeff Dixon #88 from a sixth starting spot would show poise and patience as he raced his way to third place. Jake Cameron and Richard Mouton the two purple machines would battle it out for fourth and fifth, with Cameron #86c claiming the fourth spot and Mouton #18 fifth.
Starting on the pole and leading every lap Zach Sanders #69 never looked back and ran a flawless race for his first victory of the 2014 season in the USRA A-Mod’s. Kassum Minnesota’s own Darwin Karau #23 would make his presence felt, charging from a fourth row outside starting position to finish in second place. Karau would battle past the third place finisher of Trevor Hunt #99h, with fellow Minnesotan Lucas Schott #69x finishing fourth. Second week with great racing action witnessed week one winner Dennis Elliott #29 recover from an early race mishap to finish a strong fifth.
I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of our loyal fans for braving Mother Nature and enjoying great racing action. The Hula-Hoops were swinging with all participants declared winners and receiving a trophy. Please join us next week as we invite the Non-Wing Sprint Cars to the 3/8 mile as well as stinky foot races during Intermission. Come and witness drivers taking the “Plunge for Landon” to help raise money for a good cause. Look forward to seeing each and every one again for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best” at I-35 Speedway.
