July 2 date is Deery Series’ 25th at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 27) – Independence Motor Speedway marks the 25th visit by the Deery Broth­ers Summer Series with a $2,525 IMCA Late Model tour main event next Monday, July 2.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6:45 p.m. and racing to follow.

Hometown driver Curt Martin was the winner in six of the previous Deery features at Independ­ence. Jeff Aikey of Waterloo counts checkers from the first race there in 1987 and the most recent show last summer among his three local career wins.

Mike Murphy Jr. of Colona, Ill., is a three-time series winner so far in 2012 and holds a 10 point advantage over Andy Eckrich of Oxford in the current standings. Six-time tour champion Aikey is third in points.

Tyler Bruening of Decorah, a weekly regular at Independence, is fourth in the standings. Mar­shalltown’s Darrel DeFrance will extend his perfect series attendance streak to 394 consecutive events when the green flag flies.

Spectator admission will be $15 for adults, $10 for seniors 62 and over and students ages 12-17, and free for kids 11 and under accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.

The Late Model feature pays a minimum of $250 to start. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the Monday card, racing for $400 and $300 to win, respec­tively.

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Allstar Performance State and Stephenville Starter Northern Region Hobby Stock points, but no track points, will be awarded. A draw/redraw format will be used for the SportMods and Hobbies.
