Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour travels to I-35 Speedway on Memorial Day
MASON CITY, Iowa (May 22) – The Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour presented by XSAN makes its traditional Memorial Day appearance at I-35 Speedway with a $1,000 to win event.
Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds headline the Monday, May 27 program in Mason City. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $750 to win and both IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods contend for top prizes of $500.
IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded in all four divisions.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. The drivers’ meeting is at 5:45 p.m. and racing follows 6 p.m. hot laps.
Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for youngsters five and under free. A family pass is $40. Pit passes are $30.
I-35 also hosts the Skip Rose/Charlie Hart Memorial on Sunday, May 26 with the Modified winner taking home $2,500. Second place pays $1,000, third is good for $700 and fourth is worth $600.
The Charlie Hart was postponed because of inclement weather last Sunday. Stocks also race for $750 to win, Hobbies and Northern SportMods for $500 to win on Sunday. First place for the Mach-1 Sport Compacts pays $100.
Both Modified features are 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying races.

The first three Hawkeye Dirt Tour races held at I-35 have resulted in different winners: Richie Gustin of Gilman in 2010, Josh Ruby of Lakota in 2011 and Mike Hansen of Alton last year.
Cayden Carter of Oskaloosa was the winner when the 2013 series opened on May 7 at Benton County Speedway in Vinton. The May 16 show at Clay County Fairgrounds Speedway in Spencer was lost to inclement weather.
A dozen dates are on the tour schedule this year. Point standings will be based on drivers’ 10 best finishes.
