DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 25) – Thirteen dates make up the schedule for the 2013 version of the Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds.

All features pay a minimum of $1,000 to win and are qualifying events for 2013 or 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballots. Each series feature pays a minimum of $150 to start.

The champion also earns a $1,000 share of the $4,000 point fund, a portion of which is provided by title sponsor Karl Performance of Des Moines, to be paid to top 10 drivers in final series standings.

Standings will be determined by driver’s 10 best finishes.

“This year’s schedule is very similar to last year’s, even to the dates,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “We added Clay County Speedway in Spencer and shifted a race to Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, which is a weekly sanctioned track.”

The addition of the race at Clay County, in northwest Iowa, and the number of midweek shows figured in the decision to base series standings on drivers’ best 10 finishes.

“Spencer is definitely outside the home area for most of the 2012 series drivers,” Root acknowledged. “We realize there will be drivers who cannot make all the midweek races because they have to be at work the next morning. Going to the best 10 of 13 finishes means they can still follow the series and contend for point fund money and contingency awards.”

Opening night is Tuesday, May 7 at Benton County Speedway in Vinton. Clay County Speedway hosts the Thursday, May 16 show before the tour travels to I-35 Speedway in Mason City for the Monday, May 27 Memorial Day program.

Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City hosts the HDT on Tuesday, June 4. The series is at Cedar County Raceway in Tipton on Tuesday, June 11, at Lee County Speedway on Thursday, June 20, and at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta on Tuesday, June 25.

Next up is Algona Raceway and the Thursday, July 4 holiday show. Southern Iowa Speedway at Oskaloosa opens the pit gates to the tour on Tuesday, July 16.

Independence Motor Speedway, site of the first-ever series event in 2010, rolls out the red carpet again on Monday, Aug. 5. Hancock County Speedway’s Night of 1,000 Stars special does double duty as a tour race Thursday, Aug. 8 at Britt.

The series concludes with a Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14 doubleheader during the Yankee Dirt Track Classic at Farley Speedway.

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region, Allstar Performance State and special series points will be awarded each night.

Championship bonus points will be determined by the average car count for all 13 races. All series starts count toward drivers’ 55-race limit to accrue national and regional points.

Defending champion is Jay Noteboom.

The tour will be paired with the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models on four nights, at Webster City, Tipton and both evenings at Farley. The Independence date is in conjunction with the World of Outlaws Late Models.

A $50 entry fee will be in effect for all Hawkeye Dirt Tour shows. Tour Director Bucky Doren, Tech Inspector Ray Hill and Scorer Jen Turner all return to the circuit.
