WINSTON, MO (July 27, 2013) – In an action packed and busy night of racing the Grand Nationals was first onto the track to set the nights pace.  Travis Walker #71 threaded the needle while passing the early race leader of Houston Johnson #97 and the second place finisher of Buz Kaster #I35A on his way to victory.  Behind Walker and Kaster placing third was Marty Powell #9p, as Houston Johnson would fall to fourth.  Experiencing mechanical issues Austin Johnson #98 would finish fifth.  Heat race winner on Kaster Celebration Night at the Races would be #I35A driven by Buz Kaster, who would be pulling double duty on the night driving both Grand National and Modified.

Visiting I-35 Speedway would be the Show-Me Vintage Racers bringing back memories of racing days gone by.   With a gallant move from last to first in the first corner of the first lap, Darren Shore #2 would charge to the front early to lead every lap and claim the night’s top spot.  Jimmy Winkler #6 held off the hard charge of heat race winner Shane Wilson #7 to place second, keeping Wilson in third.  Dave Baldwin in car #4 would place fourth, and heat race winner Mike McDowell #24 would finish fifth.

Point leader of the Midwest Lightning Sprints Tom Brown #b20 would pad to an already wide margin by picking up the feature win after claiming an earlier heat race victory.  Newcomer to I-35, Ken Brown #10 would place second with Greg Black #53 a solid third.  Rick Baxter #12b finished fourth with Barry Lamb #49L rounding out the top five.  Tony Layne #71 was also a heat race winner.

As the norm at I-35 Speedway the IMCA Stock Cars did not disappoint as Kevin Anderson #417, would make a last lap pass on the high side for the feature win.  Early race leader Greg Keuhn #6x would hold off  Brad Whitney #x9 by a fender to place second with Whitney third.  Point leader Dean Wray #77 would recover from an early race encounter to finish fourth, as Bennie Turner II #11t would come home fifth. Heat race winner included John Crews #12c and Bennie Turner II #11t.

As the high flying IMCA Sport Mods took to the 3/8 mile of dirt #23jr of Nick “The Kid” Roberts would come from a seventh row outside starting position to conquer the field on his way to victory.  For the second week in a row Tony Manley #3x would lead all but the last lap to place second, with Jeremy Pittsenbarger #32p back in true form placing third.  Point leader Randy Ainsworth #57 continues his consistent season with a solid fourth place finish as Josh Steele #94j would finish fifth.  Heat race winners were Tony Manley #3x, Mitch Booher #22b, and Randy Ainsworth #57.

IMCA Hobby Stocks saw the point battle draw closer as heat race winner #34 Mich Ross would hold off National IMCA Rookie of the Year point leader Kenny Champ #3 to claim is third victory of the 2013 season.  Champ would finish second as fellow rookie Cody Doolittle #5 would finish third.  Third generation driver Bryce Whitney #x9 would finish fourth as the veteran David Truskett #83 would suffer mechanical problems moving him to fifth.

Winning in a dominating fashion in the IMCA Modified class witnessed Cory Wray #69n pick up the victory in a green to white to checkered feature.  John Hanson #2h after leading early would slip to third, as point leader Steven Glenn #26s would get past Hanson for second.  Jim Cameron, in the Starmer prepared #96c, would fend off the late challenge of Jim Peeler #92 to finish fourth with Peeler having to settle for fifth.  Heat race winners included John Hanson #2h and Paul Lanfermann II #10L.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of our loyal fans for their support on Kaster Celebration Night at the Races.  A large number of the Kaster family was on hand to celebrate and acknowledge all that Larry Kaster accomplished in improving dirt track racing.  A special trophy was presented to Dixie Kaster and the entire Kaster family by Mike and Kyle Johnson in honor of the late Larry Kaster.  Fans were entertained and involved during Intermission, as the egg relay race was too close to call and all involved fans and drivers alike were winners.  Pre-egg race inspection did find a couple of drivers attempting to gain an unfair advantage by bringing super glue and oversized ladles to participate.  After all rule infractions were cleared up the race was a huge success.  All fans young and old alike please make a poster of your favorite driver, car, or race track and bring them to I-35 Speedway next Saturday night for Poster Night at the races.  We invite all back next week for more exciting racing, family fun, and “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
