KNOXVILLE RACEWAY, Knoxville, IA, June 9, 2012 – Former Knoxville Raceway track champion, Kerry Madsen, took a lap six lead from Sammy Swindell and shot to victory in the Mediacom Shootout for the World of Outlaws here on Saturday night.  The St. Mary’s, New South Wales, Australia native was aboard the Keneric Racing #29 wrenched by Rob Hart.  Three-time and defending track champion, Clint Garner, was victorious in the 360 main event.

Madsen started on the pole of the 25-lapper by virtue of his win in the Dash, but it was Swindell who took the early advantage from outside row one, while Madsen battled Brian Brown for second.  At the five lap mark, Swindell led Madsen, Brown, Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet.

With rubber developing, Madsen found the preferred line on the low side of the track on lap six, while Swindell was on the cushion in three and four.  The result was Madsen holding the lead the rest of the way.

The event went non-stop, save for a lap 24 incident when Sam Hafertepe Jr. contacted Davey Heskin, with both drivers done for the night.  Neither was injured.  The green, white, checker finish saw little development as Madsen was able to hold off Swindell to record his 17th career feature win at Knoxville.

“We have been so close in so many Outlaw shows and something always goes wrong,” said Madsen in Victory Lane.  “I really have to thank Bob and Pete Gavranich for putting this deal together.  It’s an awesome, unbelievable commitment and effort they put behind this USA racing effort.  I’d like to thank them for the opportunity.  I really have to thank Rob Hart for the superior effort he’s put into these cars.  We didn’t have much tire left.  I didn’t want to abuse my stuff.”

Swindell was second ahead of Brown, Schatz and Sweet.  Joey Saldana, Ian Madsen, Terry McCarl, Chad Kemenah and Craig Dollansky rounded out the top ten.  Heats were won by Ryan Bunton, Kerry Madsen, Sweet and Ian Madsen.  Saldana set quick time.  Hafertepe won a great battle with Steve Kinser to take the B main.  AJ Moeller and Tasker Phillips were heat race flip victims.  Both were uninjured.

Quick-timer, Carson McCarl, had a rough start when contact with another car caused damage to his left front wheel at the start of the 18-lap 360 feature.  Matt Moro took the lead from his starting spot outside of row one ahead of Ohio visitor, Darren Long.

When McCarl jumped the cushion and slammed the turn two wall with two laps in the books, it set up a restart that saw Clint Garner take advantage, passing Moro for the lead.  The Sioux Falls, South Dakota driver would sail from there, winning for the 14th time at Knoxville.

“It was a treacherous cushion, but it was to my liking,” said Garner in Victory Lane.  “I hope I can win every night on a track like that…scared to death.  There aren’t many people that I race against that would even try it.  Thanks to everyone for coming.”

Moro came home second, ahead of Russ Hall, Tony Shilling and Long.  Tyler Groenendyk, Nate Van Haaften, Nate Mosher, Joe Beaver and RJ Johnson rounded out the top ten.  Beaver, Van Haaften and Garner won the heat races.

Next Saturday, June 16 will be American Cancer Society Relay for Life Night at the Knoxville Raceway.  For more information, visit www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com or www.SprintCarHOF.com!
