Kile & Strothman Headline Winners List At CJ Speedway
Columbus Junction, Iowa: Friday , June 16th the weatherman provided another beautiful night for racing action at the CJ Speedway located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction.
The Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modifieds took the green for their 18 lap feature with Kurt Kile splitting the front row starters, the Brau Brothers, Kile took a the lead that he would not relinquish throughout the 18 lap main event. Outside fourth row starter and point leader, Jarrett Brown worked to the front quickly and tried to catch the quick running Kile but although he was able to close on Kile, Brown was unable to mount a serious challenge for the lead. Kile took the win ahead of Brown and visitor Zach Dockter from Norwich, ND.
Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Cars never fail to provide great racing action and that was the case once again as the 16 lap main event saw plenty of wheel to wheel racing action. Corey Strothman scored the win after leading flag to flag from his outside front row start. Strothman held off the constant challenges of Johnny Spaw and Jason See. The three drivers raced in a tight pack as the wide track allowed great racing. At the checkers it was See taking second just ahead of Spaw and Matt Picray.
Logan Anderson made a return to the CJ Speedway on Friday night in the Huston Brothers Trucking IMCA Sportmod Class. Anderson started ninth and was able to get to the front quickly and race on to the win ahead of a very tough racer in Shane Paris. The checkers waved with Anderson and Paris finishing ahead of Trey Rock and Matt Mayo.
The CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Stores IMCA Hobby Stocks main event win went to Luke Phillips for the third week in a row. Phillips has been riding the hot streak that has now reached four wins in a row with a Maquoketa Speedway win added to his three in a row at CJ. Tom Killen made the tow over from Des Moines on Friday night and drove to a runner up finish. Preston McDonald turned in a fine run in taking third ahead of Tucker Richardson.
The Midwest Rod & Restoration IMCA Sport Compacts saw another Des Moines driver take the win. Kolby Sabin scored the win in the ten lap main event and second was determined after the apparent second place finisher failed to pass tech inspection. The DQ moved Darin Smith into second ahead of Bob Hayes and Caleb Giese.
Weekly racing will continue on Friday, June 23rd with all five classes in action with hot laps at 7:15 followed by racing.
Friday, June 30th will feature the return of the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Models, the high powered open Late Models will be racing for a top prize of $5,000. Current point leader of the MLRA, Chad Simpson of Mt Vernon, Iowa will lead a strong contingent of Open Late Models to the CJ Speedway.
