Lamberies takes victory at SportMod Challenge

DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 9, 2017) – Clintville, Wisconsin racer, Lucas Lamberies made the long haul to the Davenport Speedway pay off with a win in the SportMod Challenge.
Lamberies started on the front row of the 50-lap feature, outside of Tony Olson. However it would be Olson who jumped out to the early race lead. Olson would lead the first thirty-eight
laps of the race.
Lamberies used a higher line to get around Olson and take the lead. A couple laps later, Curtis VanDerWal would also pass Olson for second. On the final lap, VanDerWal tried a slide job for the lead, but got up into some loose dirt on turn two and Lamberies came back down the track and retook the lead and the win.
VanDerWal would finish second, with Olson third. Gage Neal and Rick Wages completed the top five. SportMod heat race winners were Olson, Tim Current, Ben Chapman, and Dalton Simonsen. Semis went to Logan Anderson and Dustin Schram.
For his efforts, Lucas earned the $2,000 first place prize and a guaranteed starting spot in the Iowa Governor’s Cup on September 22nd.
In weekly point action, Matt Ryan captured his second straight Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model main. Ryan passed Rob Toland just after the midway point of the race. A late race caution bunched up the field behind Ryan. On the restart, Ryan pulled away and gained the win.
Rob Toland held on to finish second, while Brunson Behning came on strong late in race to take third. Chuck Hanna and Jeremiah Hurst finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Brandon Durbin scored his second Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified win of the season.
Scott Olson led several laps of the feature before allowing Brandon Durbin to get by. In the final laps, Doug Crampton and Mitch Morris each took a shot at the lead, but Durbin was able to hold on for the win. Morris took second, followed by Bruce Hanford and Doug Crampton. Bryce Garnhart rounded out the first five.
Nick Hixson won his first Koehler Electric Street Stock feature. Hixson led the 15-lap feature flag to flag. Jeff Struck Jr. finished second, just ahead of Cary Brown. Nick Claussen was fourth with Randy Lamar fifth.
Next Friday, June 16th, weekly point racing is tops on the agenda. All four weekly classes will be in action.
