Donnellson, IA (Friday, October 9, 2015) – After six weeks off from racing the Lee County Speedway got back into action on Friday, October 9th with night 1 of the “4th Annual Fall Extravaganza”, being presented by Armstrong Tractors, Budweiser, Donnellson Tire and Service, and Midwest Performance and Power. One hundred and fifty cars signed in for the first night of competition, with Kyle Brown (Budweiser Modifieds), Jeff Mueller (Donnellson Tire and Service Stock Cars), Curtis Van Der Wal (Shottenkirk of Ft. Madison SportMods), Dustin Griffiths (Coors Light Hobby Stocks), and Jake Benischek (Armstrong Tractors Sport Compacts) picking up feature wins.

The first feature to take to the track was the 20 lap Shottenkirk of Ft. Madison SportMods, with Curtis Van Der Wal and Kip Siems drawing the front row. Van Der Wal would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Logan Anderson and Jim Gillenwater. Van Der Wal then started to pull away from the side-by-side battle behind him, until the first caution of the race appeared on lap 6. Ethan Braaksma would spin in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Van Der Wal jumped back out front, with Anderson and Gillenwater continuing their battle for second. Two laps later, lap 9, the second caution of the race slowed the action. This time Siems and Austen Becerra collided down the backstretch to bring out the yellow. On the restart Gillenwater, Anderson and Van Der Wal raced three wide off turn 2 for the lead, with Van Der Wal holding the top spot coming off turn 4. The battle for the top spot was slowed 2 laps later, when Robert Gould spun in turn 2 on lap 11 to bring out the yellow. Disaster would strike on the restart, when Anderson got sideways down the backstretch and collected Patrick Phillips, Tyler Soppe, Colton Livezey, Louis Lynch, and Gould to bring out the red. Soppe was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital to get checked out, while all other drivers climbed out of their cars okay. Van Der Wal would jump back out front on the restart, with Gillenwater and Brandon Dale, who started 12th, close behind. Van Der Wal then pulled away over the final 9 laps to pick up his first win of the season at the track and the $1,000 top prize. Gillenwater was 2nd, Dale was 3rd, Tony Dunker came from 10th to finish in 4th, with Jake McBirnie coming from 11th to finish 5th.

Up next was the 15 lap Armstrong Tractors Sport Compact feature, with Jake Benischek and Brandon Reu leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Benischek took advantage of his stating spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Reu and Josh Barnes. Just after the completion of lap 1 the first caution of the race appeared, as Darin Weisinger and Renny McCarty spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Benischek jumped back out front, with Barnes over taking Reu for the runner up spot. Benischek paced the field out front, while Reu and Barnes swapped the runner up spot. The action was slowed on lap 8, when Bryerson Tharp slowed to a stop in turn 2 to bring out the caution. Benischek once again grabbed the lead on the restart over Reu and Barnes. One lap later, lap 9, Eric Stogdell got into the back of Kimberly Abbott, who spun down the front stretch to bring out the yellow. Once again Benischek moved out front on the restart, with Barnes over taking Reu for the runner up spot. The battle up front was slowed for the fourth time, as Luke Benischek, who was running 5th, slowed to a stop in turn 1 on lap 13 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Stogdell clipped a tire in turn 4 and rolled to bring out the red. He climbed from his car okay. The following restart saw Jake Benischek jump back out front, with Reu and Barnes close behind. Benischek would hold on over the final 2 laps to score his first win at the track and the $300 top prize to go with it. Reu was 2nd, Shaun Slaughter came from 13th to finish 3rd, Barnes was 4th, with Chuck Fullenkamp coming home in 5th after starting in 8th.

Nathan Wood and Jeff Mueller drew the front row for the 22 lap Donnellson Tire and Service Stock Car feature, with Mueller grabbing the lead on lap 1 over David Brandies and Wood. Brandies would look under Mueller for the lead over the next 8 laps, when the first caution appeared on lap 9. Dean Kratzer spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Mueller jumped back out front, with Brandies and Wood close behind. Brandies again tried to get under Mueller over the next 3 laps, when the second and final caution of the race appeared. This time Chad Krogmeier spun in turn 2 and collected Devon Timmerman and Kratzer to bring out the yellow. Mueller once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Brandies and Mike Hughes, who started 12th, following. Mueller would pull away over the final 10 laps to claim his third win in a row at the track and the $1,000 top prize. Brandies was 2nd, Wood was 3rd, Hughes was 4th, with Zack VanderBeek charging from 22nd to finish in 5th.

The 16 lap Coors Light Hobby Stock feature was up next, with Dale Porter and Dane Blozovich leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Porter would take advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Blozovich and Nick Ulin. Just after the completion of lap 1 the first caution of the race appeared, as Brandon Symmonds spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Blozovich slipped under Porter to take over the top spot, with Dustin Griffiths, who started 7th, close behind in third. The three car battle up front was slowed for the second time on lap 4, when Justin Wacha, who was running 4th, spun in turn 4 and collects Zach Swanson to bring out the yellow. On the restart Griffiths went to the bottom of the track to go from third to the lead, with Porter and Blozovich battling for the runner up spot. One lap later, lap 5, Sierra Wilsey rolled in turn 2 to bring out the red. She was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Griffiths once again grabbed the lead on the restart and then held on over the final 11 laps to pick up his seventh win of the season at the track and the $500 top prize to go with it. Porter was 2nd, Blozovich was 3rd, Wacha recovered from his spin on lap 4 to come back up to finish in 4th, with Justin Lichty coming home in 5th.

The 25 lap Budweiser Modified feature was the final race to take to the track on the night, with Levi Nielsen and Cayden Carter drawing the front row. Carter used his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Nielsen and Kyle Brown. While Carter used the top of the track, Brown would use the bottom of the track to edge out Carter at the line to lead lap 6. The duo would start to pull away from the battles behind them, as they entered lapped traffic on lap 14. Coming off turn 4 on lap 16 Carter was able to take the top spot from Brown. But one lap later Brown would come back on the bottom to lead lap 17. Coming around to complete lap 18, Carter was able to slip under Brown to take the lead back. The following lap, lap 19, Brown went to the top of the track to take the top spot back. Brown then held on over the final 6 laps of a caution free race to claim his first win of the season at the track and the $1,000 top prize. Carter was 2nd, Bruce Hanford was 3rd, Michael Long charged from 14th to finish in 4th, with Richie Gustin rounding out the top 5.
