Mid-America Lightning Sprints Press Release for this weekend’s event May 25th
MALS – (May 22, 2014) – Mid-America Lightning Sprints presented by Jayhawk millwright prepares to kick off the 2014 season at one of the biggest sprint car events of the year in Missouri.
Memorial weekend is a time to reflect and give thanks to the people who have given there all to make it possible for us to have the freedom to do the things we like. It is also one of the biggest race weekends of the year with events around the county like the Indianapolis 500, the Coca cola 600 and in Europe the Monaco Grand Prix. In Missouri we also have a tradition of racing on this weekend. This Sunday May 25th Mid-America Lightning Sprints presented by Jayhawk millwright will be at Double-X speedway in California Missouri to help celebrate the memory of one of Missouri’s favorite sons Jesse Hockett. MALS will be one of the support class’s for the ASCS 360 Winged Sprint cars. Last year’s MALS race was won by veteran driver Phil Heavelow in car 44 whose years of experience seems to always place him at the top of every event he attends.
This year’s race should be hotly contested as most drivers have been working on their race operations over the off season and are ready to see if all their hard work will pay off too challenge car 44 to victory. Drivers like MK Billings who had some reliability issues last season seems to have them sorted out this year, Tony Hundlin who has become lean and mean over the off season by shedding 20 pounds, Rick Murcko who’s new chassis appears ready to win, last season’s MLS points champion Tony Layne who is always a threat to win, Chris Schofield and Frank Ikerd with their new cars and power plants, Drivers like Zach Morehead and team mate Ryan Kent, new driver Dallas Sales from Southwest Missouri, second year drivers Greg Black from Iowa and Luke McGee from Eldorado Springs MO, and crowd favorite Bird Schofield from Chilhowie MO. With several drivers coming in from other states and our regular Mid-America Lightning Sprints presented by Jayhawks millwright drivers this will be a great show!
