| July 20, 2024

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 19, 2024) – The final night of racing at Davenport Speedway before the Mississippi Valley Fair is usually an intense one, such was the case again this season.

For the first time this year, the Outhouse and Storage to Go Container Rentals IMCA Late Model class had a back-to-back feature winner. Evan Miller started in the fourth row and would not see the lead until lap twenty-two of the main. Once in front, Miller pulled away and ended with a 1.323 second advantage over second place Jesse Bodin.

Bodin started fifth and would lead twice during the 25-lap affair for a total of seventeen laps. Miller and Bodin were not the only lap leaders. Doug Burkhead started in front and led lap one. He would pull off the track several laps later. Nebraska racer Cory Dumpert was back in Davenport to race again. Cory used a couple of bold moves early to take the lead on lap six. Dumpert would fall back several laps later and fade to a fifth place finish.

Matt Ryan had a solid run, racing from ninth to third. Andy Nezworski was the big mover of the race, starting 18th and finishing fourth. The late model feature was marred by one mishap. Nathan Balensiefen’s racecar was flipped on a restart. He was able to walk away from the crash.

Late Model heat race wins went to Chris Lawrence, Doug Burkhead, and Cruz Birkhofer.

Kyle Montgomery of Tipton had a perfect night in the Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Modified division. Kyle led all eight laps of his heat race for the win. He then came back and led all twenty laps of the feature for his first win of the year.

Bill Roberts Jr. got close to Montgomery several times but would have to settle for second. Matt Werner raced from a sixth row start to take third, just ahead of Tony VonDresky. Chris Zogg rounded out the top five.

Zogg is now tied with Matt Werner for the Modified points lead. Ben Chapman is only two points back.

Logan Veloz re-established himself back atop the D&K Home Products IMCA SportMod class. Veloz posted his seventh feature win at Davenport this season. Logan led every lap of the race to get to Competitive Concrete Victory Lane.

Shane Paris made a valiant effort racing from the sixth row to finish second, but had nothing for the leader. Dakota Cole took third, in front of Jarrett Franzen and Cole Stichter.

Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock action saw Tony VonDresky capture his fifth feature win on the season. Tony started seventh and made quick work of the field, taking the lead on lap three. Donnie Louck started deep in the field and drove to second. Blake Woodruff led the first two laps and held on to third. Landen Chrestensen and Jesse Owen were fourth and fifth respectively.

The wait is finally over for Randy LaMar as he dominated the Thiesen’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature. The victory was his first of the season at Davenport. Jordan Miles was a distant second. Tucker Richardson, Karter Miles, and Jamie Hixson were third through fifth, in that order.

Cyle Hawkins collected feature win number four in Fred’s Towing & Cantrell’s Towing 4-Cylinder racing. Dustin Forbes was able to hold off Shawn McDermott for second. Nolan Morrow and Jacob Welter were fourth and fifth.

Weekly racing action at the Davenport Speedway will resume Friday, August 9th. The XR Super Series will race at Davenport on July 22 & 23. Each night will pay $15,000 to the late model winner. Wednesday, July 24th, XR presents the ONUM Modifieds racing for a $20,000 payday.
