Modified awards new to Karl Chevrolet’s IMCA program in 201
ANKENY, Iowa (April 16) – An ever-expanding contingency program sees Karl Chevrolet giving new awards to IMCA Modified drivers beginning this season.
An IMCA partner since 2005 and title sponsor of the Northern SportMod division since 2006, the Ankeny, Iowa, auto dealer and crate engine retailer will reward eligible IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified drivers winning track championships with a $50 gift card.
Drivers must compete exclusively with a crate engine and gift cards may be used toward the purchase of any 604 crate engine accessories.
Karl Chevrolet also takes over title sponsorship of the Race of Champions for Northern SportMods and for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, paying the purse and giving a crate engine at each event.
In its continuing role as title sponsor for the Northern SportMods, Karl Chevrolet provides a portion of the $9,500 point fund to be paid to top 15 drivers in final standings for the division.
The national champion earns a $3,000 share of that point fund. Checks will be presented during the national awards banquet in November or mailed beginning the next week from the IMCA home office.
Seventy tracks in 15 states have returned contracts to run Northern SportMods this season, as the division expands to Arizona and Nevada.
Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod drivers competing exclusively with a 602 crate engine and winning a track championship in 2013 also receive a $50 gift card.
All Northern SportMod drivers must display two Karl Chevrolet decals on their race car to be eligible for any post-season point fund shares. In addition to competing with a crate engine, Northern SportMod, Hobby Stock and Modified drivers must also return a sign-up form to the IMCA home office by Aug. 1 and display two Karl Chevrolet decals.

“The Modified awards are in line with awards presented to our Hobby Stock and SportMod drivers last season and a great way for drivers to capitalize on their crate engine success,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “However, the real exciting addition to this program is the title sponsorship of our Race of Champions events at Super Nationals. We will announce more details as we get closer to the event, but I’ll tease it by saying that the winner of each race will have a very interesting decision to make during the victory lane interview.”
