Moran does it again at Davenport
DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 28, 2021) – Devin Moran took home the honors in the finale of the Quad Cities 150 presented by Hoker Trucking. The Dresden, Ohio driver led sixty-nine laps of the 70-lap World of Outlaw Late Model main event. He also took home the winner’s check for $30,000.
Moran led the first four laps before allowing Brandon Sheppard to lead lap five. His next challenge would come from Bobby Pierce. Pierce tried a couple of slide jobs on Moran. Each time Moran would cross him over, negating the pass. Moran’s victory was his second in three days, having won the preliminary on Thursday.
Twice the crowd was brought to its feet for cautions. The first was a red flag on lap ten, when Garrett Alberson rolled and flipped his racecar off turn one. Alberson escaped serious harm and was able to walk to the ambulance.
The second caution that got the crowd abuzz, was late in the race. Pierce’s second slide job attempt allowed Chris Madden to pass Bobby for second. Trying to get the spot back, Pierce and Madden made contact, with Madden spinning in turn three.
On the ensuing restart, Shirley would move into second and finish there. Pierce would lose the highside on the final lap and fall back to fifth position. Third went to Boom Briggs, with Sheppard finishing fourth.
Moran, Sheppard, Pierce, and Madden won late model heat races. Last chance qualifiers went to Nick Hoffman and Cade Dillard.
Jeff Aikey took home the big big check in Modified action. Copying the late models, Aikey started fourth, took the lead on lap one, lost it on lap five, got the lead back a lap later and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Mitch Morris was the driver that led lap five and finished second. Third went to Ethan Braaksma. Cayden Carter and Shane DeVolder finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Tyler Soppe led every lap of the SportMod feature. Soppe started fourth, instantly grabbed the lead, and stayed ahead of the melee in the pack. Cole Suckow kept Soppe in his sights, but had to settle for second. Tenth place starter Ben Chapman took third, followed by Dylan VanWyk who started 16th. Brayton Carter rounded out the top five.
K Promotions will take a much deserved break and be back October 30th, for the Spooktacular Enduro at Davenport Speedway.
