OSKALOOSA, IA (May 30, 2012) – The racing action was held and sponsored by John’s Tree Service of Des Moines with residents of Ottumwa and Hedrick get in for $5 and every adult admission ticket got free nachos. This was one of the best crowd this year at the Southern Iowa Speedway. The races that was scheduled on the night was a IMCA Sport Mod King of the Hill and a Hobby Stock NASCAR Style race but due to the weather and  rain coming they move them to the end of the night if the rain would hold off. But the Hobby Stock NASCAR Style was then delayed to next week at the drivers meeting but unfortunately the rain would come before all of the features were complete. With the rain falling the track got to slick and was forced to call off the remaining three feature and will be made up next week.

The first feature of the night was the Autocrafters/Whalen Racing IMCA Sport Compacts. Current IMCA National Point Leader Bill Whalen Jr. would lead the first 4 laps before Runner-Up Merv Chandler would make the pass and take the lead on lap 5. Chandler would go on and take his 4th win at Southern Iowa Speedway. Whalen would finish 2nd with his brother John Whalen finishing 3rd. Matt Beal would make his first ever appearance at SIS and finish 4th and Ronald McCish would experience early mechanical troubles and not make the call for the feature.

The rain would start after the Sport Compacts feature with sprinkles but the Pyramid Graphics and Sports IMCA Sport Mod feature would come out on to the track. Bryon Weyer would take the lead but shortly after 1 lap was completed the caution would come out. Weyer wouldn’t let it bother him as he would go on and take his 2nd win at SIS. Jesse Sobbing would end up finishing a close 2nd. Curtis Vanderwal , Eric Flander and Carter Vandenberg would round out the top 5

Next up was the IMCA Hobby Stock Feature but just after 1 lap was completed the caution would come out as the rain start to pick up and after a look at the radar the call was made to cancel for the rest of the night and make up the features next week.

This Week June 6th is going to be a night you won’t want to miss. IMCA Hobby Stocks will be going for $400 to win $60 to start draw/redraw. $20 entry fee with all positions in feature raised from $20 to $200. Double features in Modified, Stock Car, and Hobby Stock. Johns Tree Service will be the sponsor of the makeup races and1st Community Credit union of the June 6 show.

First 50 kids will receive a football and a special drivers obstacle course will take place at intermission sponsored by 1st Community Credit Union. Winners receiving free pit passes for the following week. Modified driver Brandon Banks will be raising money for a special kid by shaving his head in front of the crowd.

Each driver has $2 off coupons for next weeks show. The 2 drivers that have the most coupons used at the ticket office will receive $100 and $50 along with a trophy presentation. Community First Credit Union night with the first 50 kids getting a free football and a special drivers obstacle course will take place at intermission and drivers will get free pit passes for winning. Also we’ll raise money to shave Brandon Banks of Washington’s head to raise money for a six year old kid named Payton to help try to cover medical expenses the family has endured.
