By Tony Paris
(Bloomfield, Iowa) The Bloomfield Speedway was on the lost speedway list but was able to take it’s name off and resume racing action after the Davis County Fairboard and race board elected to hold racing action on October 8th & 9th holding four classes of cars and seeing 69 entries on Friday and 73 entries on Saturday night.
The fans were treated to some great racing on both nights with four cylinders starting the nights program both nights as the first features. The 2M of Matt Moore from Ottumwa scored the win on Friday night but was collected in an accident ending his run-on Saturday night. The winner on Saturday night was William Michael of Columbus Junctions taking the prize money and laser cut trophy. The second feature of both nights was stock cars entertaining the crowd with two and three wide racing thru the feature event. The Friday night feature saw Michael Jeannette of Kellogg pocket the $750 payday leading the 20lpa event with Dustin Griffiths of Hedrick taking the runner-up spot both nights. Andrew Schroeder driving the Scott Shull Motorsports 57 entry found the bottom groove and raced his way to a third-place finish and Derrick Agee of Moberly, Missouri taking fourth. The Saturday night stock car feature saw Todd Reitzler of Grinnell pocket the $750 win and trophy holding off Griffiths who had two second place finished. Jason Mc Daniel of Eldon took third and Brett Lowry of Ottumwa taking fourth.
In the B-Modified feature the same car took the win both nights but had two different drivers take the checkers. On Friday night Shane Devolder from Pacifica, California got the call to pilot the DeJong motorsports entry for Matt DeJong who primary driver Maguire DeJong was playing foot ball for second ranked Montezuma Braves who improved to 8-0 with a football win Friday night. Devolder used the bottom of the speedway surface to take the win. Curtis Vanderwal of Osky took second with Casey Lancaster of Glenwood, Missouri taking third and Colton Nelson from Osceola taking fourth. The Saturday night feature saw Trent Orwig of Ottumwa lead the first thirteen laps before having trouble in turn two ending his night and DeJong was able to inherit the lead and pocket the $750 plus extra $100 on lap 14 in memory of Steve Parks of Bloomfield who always fielded a car with number 14 on it with several different drivers. Parks passed away from a long battle with cancer in early part of June 2021. The second spot went to Colton Livezey of New Sharon who took second and Colton Nelson of Osceola taking third and Lancaster took fourth.
