Jack Sullivan Turns Back CCSDS Foes at Diamond Park
NASHVILLE, AR (Aug 13, 2012) – Jack Sullivan made a rare 2012 appearance with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model tour on Saturday night at Diamond Park Speedway (Nashville, Arkansas), and he made the most of the opportunity by storming to the $2,000 payday.
Twenty-two competitors entered the program at the lightning fast 3/8 mile oval, and Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year leader, Robert Baker, earned the New Vision Graphics Pole for the 35 lap feature. Baker, who won with the series earlier in the year at Diamond Park Speedway was joined on the front row by Jack Sullivan. As the race went green Baker bolted to the top spot with Sullivan, Jon Mitchell, Brandon Smith, and Billy Moyer Jr. in pursuit.
The early stages of the race would endure a series of cautions with Baker maintaining the top spot. However, on lap 11 Sullivan would move past Baker to take over the lead. Once out front Sullivan would never relinquish the top spot on his way to the victory. Billy Moyer Jr. looked to be a potential contender before a brake rotor malfunction ended his night just after halfway. Sullivan was followed across the line by Eric Turner, Robert Baker, Jon Mitchell, and Brandon Smith. With the win Sullivan became the eleventh different winner on the tour thus far into 2012.
GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 was won by Jack Sullivan with Jon Mitchell winning NEA Super Gas/Killer Coatings Heat Race #2, and RiceTec Heat Race #3 being topped by Brandon Smith.
Tommy Surrett claimed the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award for advancing from his sixteenth starting spot to an eighth place finish.
Billy Moyer Jr. received the Quarter Master Hard Luck Award after mechanical issues ended his shot at the win.
The CCSDS tour will take a break for the rest of the month of August before resuming the 2012 campaign on September 7th-8th at Northeast Arkansas Speedway (Harrisburg, Arkansas) with the 2nd Annual Rockabilly 45.
