Nathan Wood Racing Ready for weekend #2 of the 2013 season
SIGOURNEY, IOWA (March 26, 2013) – Nathan Wood Racing is a dirt-track stock car racing team based out of southeast Iowa. Nathan is a twenty-eight year old stock car driver by night, and high school principal by day. Nathan is the high school principal at Pekin Community High School in Packwood, Iowa. Wood started his racing career as a sophomore in high school. In 2003 he graduated from Sigourney High School. After graduating from Sigourney, Nathan continued his tours across the dirt-tracks of Iowa as he attended William Penn University in Oskaloosa. At Penn, Wood acquired his bachelor’s degree in secondary education. He is now the high school principal at Pekin Community High School in Packwood, Iowa. He is also currently taking classes to obtain his endorsement to become a superintendent in Iowa.
Since Wood began his racing career in 2002 he has logged in over 420 nights of racing action, picking up 95 feature wins, six track championships, along with a USRA national championship and IMCA national rookie of the year awards.
Wood’s career year in a hobby stock came in 2006 as when he capitalized his best year by winning the 2006 USRA Hobby Stock National Championship in fashion. He broke numerous records under the USRA banner by winning a record-setting 32 feature wins in a single season. After his highlighted year in 2006, Wood jumped into a full-fender USRA stock car where he has competed the past six seasons. 2010 was his best season to date in the stock cars as he won national and regional awards in both IMCA and USRA racing logging over 65 nights of racing at 18 different tracks across the Midwest. In 2010 Nathan won titles of IMCA National Rookie of the Year and was the champion by a mere 1 point in the USRA Iron Man series over rival Mike Van Genderen. In 2012 Nathan piloted the Dennis Plain Motorsports 52 car across the state.
In 2013 Nathan will be competing in the USRA and IMCA stock car division on a full-time basis. At the current time Nathan will drive his own Arrow Chassis, built by Blaine Dopler from Wapello. There is a possibility that he will drive for Southern Iowa Chassis later in the year, but at this time no developments have been made a reality. Nathan will compete weekly at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa along with a regular track on Friday night (CJ Speedway or Lee County Speedway). He will also race on a regular basis at 34 Raceway in Burlington and the Benton County Speedway in Vinton.
The winter’s preparation for the 2013 season indicates that this may be Nathan’s most successful season yet to date in a stock car.
This weekend Nathan will be racing at Lee County’s Friday Spring Extravaganza for the first IMCA event of 2013 in Iowa
