DAVENPORT, Ia. (April 27, 2017) – Friday was Koehler Electric Season Opener night at the Davenport Speedway. The quarter-mile oval provided plenty of action for the first points night of 2018.

Andy Nezworski collected a long-overdue victory in Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action. Nezworski led all twenty-five laps of the race, despite pressure from Nick Marolf early and Chad Holladay in the final laps. Andy’s last win at Davenport came May 30th, 2014.  Holladay took second, ahead of Rob Toland, Matt Ryan, and Chuck Hanna, in that order.  Toland and Hanna were late model heat winners.

Rob Toland led the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature for all of fifty yards, the last fifty. Toland drove under race leader Eric Barnes in the final corner of the race and sprinted to the checkered flag. Rob started eighth and slowly worked his way to the front.

Barnes grabbed the lead from the outside pole and led the first nineteen laps of the race that went green, white, checkered. Bryce Garnhart, Chris Zogg, and Matt Werner finished third through fifth respectively.

Another week, another win for Tony Olson in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod main. Olson started in the sixth row and after several early cautions was able to drive around early race leader Brandon Jewell. Olson led the rest of the way to the checkers. Jewell held on to the runner-up spot. Brandon Setser would finish third, followed by Matt Fulton and Randy Lamar.

Thirty sportmods were on hand Friday. Heat race wins went to Olson, Jewell, and Doug Burkhead. Semi-feature winners were Chance Huston and Bobby Taggart.

In the first feature of the night, the Koehler Electric Street Stocks got the crowd to their feet early. Austin Riggs rolled his car in turn one on the fourth lap. He was able to exit the car quickly and walk away from the incident. On the restart, the three leaders tried to go three-wide into turn three with Jeff Struck Jr. hitting an infield tire and retiring to the pits.

Despite the carnage, Tony VonDresky led all the laps en route to the win. Jesse Owen drove to a second place finish. Jefferey Peterson, Rob Nylin, and Bryan Ritter completed the first five.

Next Friday at the Davenport Speedway, the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Models return to take on the quarter-mile oval in the Short Track Challenge. Modifieds, Street Stocks, and SportMods will also be racing for track points.
