Nezworski Scores Late Model Win At Jackson County Fair

Maquoketa, Iowa (July 28, 2022) – Well over 100 race teams packed the pit area on a perfect night for Stock Car Racing on Thursday night a the Jackson County Fair. The huge crowd was treated to an action packed swift running race program that saw the final checkered flag of the night waved at 10 pm.

The IMCA Late Models made a return to the Maquoketa Speedway ¼ mile and the fans were treated to a very entertaining 25 lap feature event. Justin Kay drew the outside front row and appeared to be the man to beat in the 15K Corn & Soybean Express Late Model. 5th starting Andy Nezworski raced into second early in the race and started closing on Kay. Nezwoski was able to take the lead late in the race and go on to hold off one last challenge by Kay on the white flag lap. Matt Ryan came from a seventh starting position to take third.

Matt Werner added another win to his resume in the US Cellular IMCA Modified feature event. Ray Cox led early before Werner took control of the top spot. Werner held off a late race charge by Travis Denning in scoring the 20 lap feature win. Brandon Schmitt made the trip down from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on Thursday night and raced from a fifth row start to to take third.

The Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmod feature saw a strong field of 18 drivers take the green flag for their 15 lap main event. Shane Paris has been the man to beat in the Sportmods as of late and Thursday night was no exception as Paris advanced form a 4th row start to take the lead after race leader Jarrett Franzen was sidelined due to a mechanical failure while leading. Matt Mayo advanced from a fifth row start to take second ahead of Jesse Bodin.

Hawkins Trucking & Construction IMCA Stock Cars provided their usual wheel to wheel racing on Thursday night. The lead was hotly contested the entire 15 laps with veteran racer Joe Zrostlik scoring the win by a slim margin ahead of Tim Current. The two battled lap after lap for the lead with Zrostlik taking the checkers less than a car length ahead of Current.

20 INEX Legends took the green for their 20 lap feature on Thursday night. The wide track provided plenty of room for three and four wide racing for the little guys. Michael Weber scored the win following a hard fought battle with Jordan Miklas. The two front runners ran several laps side by side without either able to gain the advantage until Weber finally secured the top spot very late in the race.

Randy LaMar added another feature win on Thursday night topping the Ueland Auto Hobby Stock feature. LaMar fought off the early challenges of Jimmy Doescher and broke away to score an impressive win. Doescher crossed the finish line in second ahead of Dawson Bowling.

The American Iron Racing Series brought 17 cars of all makes and body styles to the Jackson County Fair on Thursday night. All American made and powered by American made horsepower. Jake Hayes scored the win in his 1957 Packard powered by a 302 Ford engine. Hayes raced to the win ahead of Dave Meyer in his 1970 Chevy Nova.

The Maquoketa Speedway will return to Saturday night racing on Saturday, August 6th with a full program of racing. Saturday the 13th will see the return of the Midwest Late Model Racing Association as the high powered late Models will do battle on the Maquoketa Speedway ¼ mile.
