Noteboom’s decision to stick around pays off with night 2 Farley JR Motorsports HDT win
FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 15) – After an early exit from Friday’s JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature at Farley Speedway, Jay Noteboom gave serious thought to putting his IMCA Modified in the trailer and heading for home.
Now he’s got 2,000 reasons why he’s glad he didn’t.
Noteboom stuck around and raced from 14th to first to win the Saturday series event during the Yankee Dirt Track Classic. The victory paid $2,000 and put Noteboom on the ballot for the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.
Perhaps most importantly it cut another point off Jeremy Mills’ advantage going into the series-ending doubleheader Sept. 21 and 22 at Marshalltown Speedway.
Mills advanced eight spots to finish second. Chris Horn, Friday winner Mark Elliott and Ron Barker completed the top five.
Jason Schueller started outside row one and led the first three of 30 circuits before his engine let go and brought out what proved to be the only caution of the contest. Barker inherited the lead, holding off Matt Crist as Ryan Dolan ran a close third.
Dolan fell out of that race for position as Mills and Elliott, then Noteboom on lap nine, duked it out. Barker gained some ground on that trio before Noteboom caught Mills for second.
Following the middle line with Barker on the outside, Noteboom pulled even at the line on lap 16. He took the lead for good on the next circuit and never looked back, taking the checkers by a comfortable margin.
Mills moved into second for good on lap 21; Darin Duffy closed fast to finish sixth.
The win was the second of the 2012 series for Noteboom, and came at the 100th different track he’s raced at over the course of his career.
Noteboom was changing gears Saturday when he determined his right rear shock needed to be replaced. The result was a smooth ride and $2,000.
