Phillips To Lead Star-Studded Field At Springfield Kuntz Memorial
SPRINGFIELD, MO (May 8, 2012) – Springfield’s Terry Phillips will be leading a Star-Studded field of Super Late Models Sat. night at the Springfield Raceway as the 6th Annual John Kuntz Memorial presented by Andy’s Frozen Custard as the MARS and MLRA Super Late Models Series tackle the “Quick-Quarter” for their second of 3 meetings this season.
Phillips,who made the switch to the Bloomquist chassis during the off-season is hoping that this event will get him that first Late model win of the season at a track that he has had alot of success at.
In 2 Late Model Special events with the new car this season Phillips has drove it to a 3rd and 4th place finish
Phillips made his first ever start at the same facility even though things have changed some.Add to the fact that John Kuntz the founder of Andy’s Frozen Custard(who sponsors Phillips) has the event in his honor.Phillips won the event in 2010,while former TPR driver Jeremy Payne took home the honors in both 2008-2009.
Along with Phillips,the winningest driver in both the MLRA and MARS history,the names and competition keeps getting tougher and tougher at this event as Super Stars such as defending MLRA Champion John Anderson of Omaha,Nebraska,defending MARS Champion Brad Looney of Republic,Mo, current MLRA point leader Will Vaught of Crane,Mo.MARS Point leader Jesse Stovall of Galena,David Turner,Iowa’s outstanding rookie Kevin Sather,Oklahoma standout Brandon Morton,Springfield’s Chris Morelock,Bryan Allison of Marshall, Brandon McCormick of Lebanon,Tony Jackson Jr of Lebanon,Mike Collins of Iowa,former Springfield regular Eric Tinderholt of Lampe,Shane Essary of Aurora plus many more of the top area and regional Late Model drivers as they compete in the 40 lap feature event.
The Last MLRA/MARS Challenge event saw Brad Looney withstand a surging Will Vaught for the win while Jesse Stovall thrilled the crowd after starting 18th and finishing 5th as the crowd had racing all over the track and many battles for the lead.
This event will also be given UMP National Late Model Points.Tire Rule will be Hoosier WRS D55 and Hoosier LM 40.
Also competing will be a full Springfield Raceway Transport Graphics points show including USRA Modifieds,USRA B-Mods,Midwest Modz,Pure Stocks,Legends,Young Lion Legends and Street Stocks as added money is in every class.The USRA Modifieds will battle for a $600 to win and $90 to start feature event along with track and National points for USRA.
Grandstand gates open at 5PM while hot laps begin at 6PM and Racing gets underway at 7PM.
Adult admission is only $20 for this special event while kids prices are 6-12 $5 and under 6 Free.
The pit gates open at 3:30PM and pit passes are $35.Local drivers meeting is slated for 5:30 and drivers check-in cut-off is 6:15PM.
